Battery Tender ?

Hey Guys, my new to me '99 has been a little slow on cranking. Previous owner installed a new batt last year, but this bike has sat alot. He gave me the BMW battery charger and it will not fully charge the batt to 100% - it keeps blinking green. Voltage is good, but just wondering do you favor plugging it in after every ride and leaving it on till next ride ? Here are voltages :

13.45 after sitting
14.01 charging
14.03 running

*it does not increase with throttle increase, so I guess this ol girl ain't like an automotive system; I am adding some aux lights this w/e so want it up to snuff. Thanks for your expertise. This forum is awesome,

Re: Battery Tender ?

My batteries are on tenders 24/7 first Battery lasted 6 years and was still working, just getting a little sluggish so I changed as preventative measure.
Just make sure you have a tender and not a trickle charger because the trickle charger always charges and does not shut off and will kill battery. The proper tender will shut off charging when a full charge is reached. Also batteries can show a full charge and still have a bad cell the only way to determine if battery is good is to test battery under load.

Re: Battery Tender ?

I only plug in when I know I won't be riding for up to a week at a time. Not a problem yet. Just a clock running, how much can it draw?

2000 Lt
800 Kawasaki
25 yrs. without
750 Suzuki
550 Suzuki
160 Honda

The ride is fresh under diamond skies, makes me glad to be alive.

Clock and alarm both draw, if so equipped, and alarm is armed. Also, if a Dice unit is attached for iPod, that draws a little (the iPod), albeit negligible amount.

That being said, attaching to the Battery Tender if not going on an extended ride for more than a week works fine.

I keep mine plugged in whenever bike is in the barn. OEM battery lasted almost 7 years! I did replace with the Odyssey, since I didn't want to press my luck.

Re: Battery Tender ?

My LT is my only transportation, gets run 2-5 times a week.

As soon as I wonder if it cranked over slower than usuall, that means the battery is going to die in a few days, even if I plug the battery tender on it to top it off every night. The 100F+ wx here eats batteries.
