'05 LT Center Stand not working

After the awesome response from my previous thread (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=100625), I hope someone can help me out with the next problem.

As stated in the previous thread, the center stand on the LT is no longer working after I replaced the clutch. It was functional before I started.

It is at the moment standing on the side stand. Depressing the center stand button results in the stand light flashing on the instrument cluster but nothing happens other than that.

What other switch have I broken off?

Re: '05 LT Center Stand not working

OK I'll see if I can live up to your expectations.

To remove the tranny you pull the center/side stand carriage. On the carriage is a limit switch (magnetic) and harness that detects when the stand is deployed. But before you check that the center stand actuator will only deploy if the following is true:

1. Side stand up
2. Bike in neutral (not in reverse either)
3. Brakes released
4. Bike is relatively level (yes there is a sensor).

Starting issue was resolved, center stand issue not. Thus the new post.

Thanks John

Yes, all 4 conditions are as above. Is there any way to test the limit switch or even to bypass it for now just to take it out of the equation?

Re: '05 LT Center Stand not working

The EHCS is also tied into the brake lights system, as John mentioned (brakes released).... if a brake globe is out or faulty it will cause the same effect... just another thing to check.

Ahhh. I have the rear panel with the tail light out as I still need to fit a new rear tyre. Will plug it back in and check again.

Re: '05 LT Center Stand not working

Its one I personally suffered and it took quite some time to figure it out... I'd replaced a dead globe with a "faulty" globe, which seemed to function properly but it took out the EHCS.

I know John is right but...

I regularly use reverse to hold the bike in place on a slope where I can't hold the bike still w/o the brakes to put it on the center stand. Read the method on the forum many years ago. Did it this morning.

Good to know. It is not in the manual and I assumed it to be the case. Thanks.
