New Radio/CB for the GT?

This past weekend I ran into someone that was wearing a BMW Motorad jacket. I started a conversation with him only to learn that he works for BMW. I don't want to give too much info in case he shared info with me that he shouldnt have. but..

I immediately asked if he knew anything about the next generation LT and he told me that "if there is one, the they are keeping under tight rap".

I explained that I liked the new GT, but I would miss my radio on the LT. He then told me that they are working on a new handlebar mounted radio for the GT that would allow you to plug in an IPOD or MP3 player. There wouldnt be any speakers on the bike, you would need to plug in your helmet. The radio would also have a CB. So I guess that you could listen to music and then when you wanted to talk on the CB the radio would cut out the music and the CB would take over.

Sounds a lot like J&M's new unit

I guess the difference is that power supply would come from the bike rather than batteries.

It sounded like it was least a year away, but I think the direction that they are going in is very interesting.

I bet

Based on the fact that J&M made the previous COMM Systems for the LT, do they still make them for BMW? not sure, I know up to some point they did.

That J&M unit is awsome, much cheaper than the Autocomm unit I put on my bike and you can take it to the other bikes you have. My Autocomm is forever attached to my LT.

The New GT is growing on me, the addition of this component is defenetly cool.

Any suggestions ? Icom, Kenwood, Yaessu, ... ?

This is the unit from J&M that you want. http://www.jmcorp.com/SeeProducts.asp?PF=24
It's the handlebar mount CB with intercom and iPOD/XM Radio integration. Typical J&M quality (great!)

Joe's spot-on. I've had the J&M CB unit on a Honda Pacific Coast, then a Honda ST1300 and finally on an R1150 RT - all owned by my wife over the years. I have their ComSystem on my LT and as Joe said, they all work(ed) great and have an amplified aux-audio input that we used to pipe-in XM radio on the RT.
