Locked out of Neutral

I recently purchased a 2008 K1200 GT with 5K miles on it - found it in Kentucky and rode it home to California in early October. In the last month, the bike has become almost impossible to shift into neutral from either 1st or 2nd gear - it seems to freeze and then with excessive force, pop up or down a gear, missing neutral. Neutral is quite easy to find when the bike is moving, as when I am approaching a stop light, but impossible when I have come to a halt, like when I have pulled into my garage or a parking space while in 1st or 2nd. Shifting while driving is very smooth and easy - better since I got an oil change at 7,800 miles and got the newly specified synthetic oil. My local shop does not know what is causing it. They agree it rides fine, and shifts fine, except for finding neutral. Clutch seems to be working normally.

Has anyone had this problem and/or know what to do about it? Would like some ideas before my local shop runs amok looking for problems.

Re: Locked out of Neutral

Victor,

Looks like no one responded for quite sometime

Just bought a K1300GT about 4 weeks ago and still reading and learning - you will be much
better off going to some other sites to gain first hand GT knowledge and help:

http://www.k-bikes.com/forums/

http://www.i-bmw.com/?

This site is not nearly as active for the GT series . . .

Good luck . . .

Re: Locked out of Neutral

Thanks for the suggestions! I found out what the problem was. While the bike had only 5020 miles on it when I bought it, the previous owner must have really chewed up the clutch, which was very badly worn. I ended up having to replace the whole clutch assembly including the oil pump. The replacement is the same clutch that is used in the K1300, which I have heard is much improved. I can now find neutral with ease and I can also find a $2,000 plus hole in my wallet.
