1300GT and 1600GT

I brought the 1600GT home yesterday and took some pictures of the two bikes side by side.

Re: 1300GT and 1600GT

Very nice comparison, Don.

Is it just a coincidence that you got the K1600GT (instead of the GTL) because it's in the same color family as the K1300GT? Or maybe you like red bikes. Either way - awesome.

Looking forward to hearing your descriptions of how the two bikes handle/perform compared to each other.

Re: 1300GT and 1600GT

Hi Howard
It will be a while before I can do a worthy comparison. Need to get through the breakin period.
I debated the GTL vs GT but stayed with the GT mainly because I like the sports bike feel and ride. But I didn't have much to go on as the first 1600GT that I saw was mine. There wasn't any GT's for demo within 1000 miles of us.
Take care

Don:

To me, the pictures make the 1600GT look slightly smaller than the 1300GT or at least slimmer. Is that true?

Re: 1300GT and 1600GT

A man on another forum said the same thing. I have taken a tape measure and checked several different points and the 1600 is indeed wider. Across the rear bags the 1600 is 2" wider. The 1300 definitely feels smaller.

The 1300 does look bigger! However I was intrigued by the aftermarket seat you have on the 1300. Can you tell me more?

HI BERNY
The seat is a Rick Mayer custom built seat. It is/was an excellent saddle. Unfortunately it didn't fit the 1600 and it has gone with the 1300.

After seeing those pics, i dont know which one to buy. I guess you do not sit up as much on the 1300 as 1600?

Re: 1300GT and 1600GT

I really have a soft spot for the 1300. It just "fit" me. I am slowly getting the 1600 to the point where it "just fits". Others have told me to get over it and just adjust to the 1600. I do get in some really long rides on the 1600 without any pains. Even though the 1300 felt like it fit better I couldn't ride as far as long as I can on the 1600 without rest stops.

Here is a website for comparing rider positions:

Nice comparison. Curious, what is your take on the stock seat on the 1600? The stock seat on the 1300 caused plenty of grief for the boys when slowing down. The 1600 looks like it is sloped slightly rearward.

I thought the 1300 seat was OK until I took an 8000 mile trip. About the fourth day I was hurting so I made up my mind that in the future I would replace any stock seat with a custom saddle before I made any long trips and that is what I did on the 1600. I did not give it a chance,I replaced it without giving much of a trial run.
