Fair weather cruise control

My 10 1300 GT is scheduled to go back for it's third replacement cruise switch. It had two switches replaced in the first month I owned it The third switch lasted much longer but then I didn't ride it much over the winter and spring. The common thread to each failure is the bike getting wet. The original switch died just the day after I bought it when I got caught in a rain storm. The second switch died after I gave the bike it's first bath. The third switch lasted longer, as I said earlier, but died just a couple days after the bike got caught out in a rain storm. So far the dealer has been gracious but I'm getting rather tired of spending my days off at the dealer getting crappy switch gear replaced. I sure hope the nitwits in the motorcycle press are happy that BMW trashed the reliable switch gear in favor of this cheap Japanese wanna be junk I'm stuck with.

Now that my rant is over, has anyone else had this problem with their switches on the "new and improved" product? I use my cruise pretty much any time I'm not riding twisty stuff. It's the best way I know not to get any more tickets. 3 in 2 years has my wife and my insurance agent more than annoyed with me

00 K1200LT (Emil) 94,840 trouble free miles. Gone, but not forgotten
02 R1150RT (Artie) 109,000 miles. Favorite bike. With me to the end.
10 K1300GT (The Phantom) 10,110 miles. Like flying a T-38 on 2 wheels. Gone.
12 K1600GTL (Johnny 5) 3,500. A great compromise between the LT and GT

A gaggle of Japanese bikes, then I woke up.

Re: Fair weather cruise control

I've ridden my '09 K13GT through biblical rainstorms (I'm not kidding - they were closing roads and declaring disaster areas behind me) and never had any trouble with the switchgear.

You need to get one good set of switches in there and you should be fine.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...
