K12GT backfire

I have a 07' K1200GT with 14K miles which has always run very smoothly. Last December I put the bike away for a few months in the garage, I filled the tank with Premium gas and put in some gas stabilizer. When I took the bike out this spring it was idleing really high about 1500 RMPs and backfireing on acceleration between 2000 and 3000 RPMs. No back fire on slowing down just during a slow accelleration between 2K and 3K.
I thought I would see improvement after burning the 1st tank of gas. but on the 2nd tank there was improvement but no cure.
Does anyone have any ideas what might be the problem?

Re: K12GT backfire

High idle is typical of a leak in the manifold system. Mice may have chewed one of your vacuum lines or one slipped off.

Re: K12GT backfire

Thanks Dean, I'll have a look. Now that you mention it I did notice that under the seat in the back of the tool area nice made a nest over the winter.

Re: K12GT backfire

Wow...you nailed it! I took all the body work and gas tank off and found a huge nest in there...after removing it...what do you know...vacume hose #4 chewed through.

Thanks for your help!!!!
