Ship it or Ride it?

Just purchased an 07GT in Florida and I live in Indiana. I have looked at one way airfare for the end of March, but with this winter weather holding on not sure the snow will be gone. So I checked into shipping cost, around $650. Has anyone used a reliable shipper for transporting a BMW? Or do I chance the weather?

Thanks,

Chris

Re: Ship it or Ride it?

Ride it. I bought a GS in Ohio back in March 2005 and rode it back to AZ. I was having serious second thoughts when my connecting flight to Ohio was delayed for most of the day at O'Hara because of a snow storm, but the weather, although iffy, turned out to be no big deal.

Remember: there is no such thing as bad weather, just inadequate gear. So be prepare for the worst you want to handle.

Worst case you hole up in a motel somewhere for a day.

Ya, and you live in AZ, you know where I can buy some tire chains for my GT,
cause I seem to be losing traction in the fricking snow here
And as well the snow keeps hiding the speedo reading so I might need a heads up display for the windshield too

I'll ride it back for you. I live by Terre Haute, so a one way ticket out of Indy and road expenses are all it would take to bribe me. JON

Check with www.funtransport.com. They shipped my bike from SoCal to Montana and did a fine job.

Ride it! Just give yourself extra time in case you run into adverse weather. ron

+ 1 on Jason's comment...and he knows what he's talking about--Kansas City has had a snow event almost every Sunday for a month!

I'm sure whatever you decide will be the right decision...(trust the force Luke)

There ya go!!! I think you will enjoy the first ride. Like others have said, allow for weather and take pictures to share.

Re: Ship it or Ride it?

Ride it! Give your self a few days look for a clear weather window and go for it. I brought up a Goldwing for a frined last March. I got the bike in Sarasota and took it to Youngstown, Ohio. Hit a little snow for a few miles in Knoxville, but I was stopping for the night anyway and it didn'cause any problems. It was fun and a great trip. Don't ship it unless you don't have the time. Carl

Re: Rode It

Hey Everyone,

Follow up post to "Ship or Ride it"

Flew into Pensacola last Wednesday and stayed with some friends through Friday. Picked up the GT Thursday the 25th and rode it around a bit for about 50 miles. Got the road at 9am and hit the super slab 800 miles later, arrived home at 8:30pm. WOW! First long ride of the season, wish I had a few more rides under my belt before I did that one. I have no idea how the Iron Butt riders do it!

Glad to be home and I did have a very fast and fun ride!

I will have a few follow-up questions about the GT coming soon.

Thanks
