I've got the E55 Givi with the backrest. Wife LOVES it, and feels very comfortable on the back of the RT with it.

I have a 2009 silver RT, and purchased the silver Givi.. looks like it's factory.

JJ I also am curious about this,

With the big price difference what is the difference in quality, $500 is a big gap.

Re: Top Case Options

I have the BMW 49 liter top case. I like it because it attaches very securely to the stock BMW rack, it can be keyed to match the ignition and side cases, and it is very large. The included back pad is comfortable, but I don't carry passengers often.

I don't like it because it upsets the look of the GT, because it can upset the balance of the bike, and because it catches side winds. Some of those are true no matter which case you choose.

Well I dont know about the Price the Dealer said they are offering them free with a new purchase. But I am sure you can opt for money off the bike instead of the Top Box.

just a quick add..

I had an E52, and could fit two N102s in it..

I now have N103s and I could not fit two N103s in it, this is why I upgraded to the E55.. I can fit two N103s, my Olympia jacket and gloves.

Re: Top Case Options

I have the Givi E52 Maxia (52 Liter) and would not consider anything smaller. I want two helmets to fit into it. You know, I may just sell the E52 and upgrade to the E55.

I have a Kuryakyn Grand Tour bag that I have been using with my current ride and even though it is not a Hard Case I think it would fit well on the Rack is anyone else using a soft top bag?

Re: Top Case Options

I have the BMW 49 ltr. Case, w/ backrest.

I also find that the case catches a lot of wind, spoils the sport-touring "look", & makes the bike top-heavy.
That being said, my wife loves it & it's big enough to carry a lot of stuff, when I have to use it.
I had a full set of three 36 ltr. Givi bags on my Katana 1100 and I think the side bags could hold a bit more than my GT's.
The 49 ltr. top case on the BMW is very nice (mine came with my bike) but, I wish it had come in blue instead of silver.

Re: Top Case Options

Had a Givi before on my 1150RT. better than the older topcase at the time but my wife liked it with the optional backrest. The accessory inner bag wasn't great quality or VFM. Have a BMW 49 litre box and my wife is very happy though I wish it had better than brick like aerodynamics. I like the extra lighting potential that the Givi offers tho fitting it on the CANBUS is too much of a PIA on a brand new bike. I kept the topbox from my 1200RT when I traded but in truth, if starting from scratch, would probably go for the givi. It is flimsier however.

as an aside....

Was at my dealer the other day and another customer was trading a blue 1200GT for a silver 1200RT and asked if I would swap lids .
Not exactly a match but close enough to the 1300gt colour that a blind man running for his life wouldn't see the difference.

(Think I'm still leaning towards the magnesium colour tho)

Would be an issue with the E52 and others, but the E55 does have LEDs and have not been an issue.

Does the Givi E55 have a quick release from the bike rack like the BMW 49 liter case?

It doesn't mount to the "BMW mount" you have to add a Givi Mount. The mount is a tricky install the first time, but I've had mine off twice trying to get the location perfect. 2nd and 3rd times were MUCH quicker.

The case does come off with a simple turn of a key. 2 seconds on and off, and the lights are wired so the case can be removed without detaching wiring..

Re: Top Case Options

Another option is the Coocase, very similar to the Givi in looks and quality and I believe at few less dollars as i recall. As an option they offer an unpainted lid panel that can be custom painted to match your motorcycle, really transforms the case from a typical after market case to a case that looks like it was made for the motorcycle.

I had mine painted to match the bike. Looks like it came from the factory that way.

Re: Top Case Options

I have the 49L BMW case and got it from San Diago BMW for $750.00. I thought about some of the other top cases but didn't like the looks of the mounting plate on the bike with the top case off. The BMW mount is really easy and quick. I have it keyed to my bike and did it myself (very easy). So far, I have not noticed the wind problems other people talk about. I do like the looks of the GIVI case on the bike, though.

I too have the 49 liter top case. I love it. So easy to leave it on and the space is great. Solid construction, just plain nice. Now I am looking for a good painter to match it to my ride. Anyone have a favorite painter in the San Mateo,Bay Area?

I have been looking for a top case rack like the one in the JAMBOB post. Can you tell me where you got it and the model number?

OOPS never saw your post.

Ordered it online from GIVI.

It's the E55, with brake light kit.

Re: Top Case Options

We started out with the BMW 49L case on our K1300GT. My wife hated it because for her it was too upright placing her totally upright and had no lower back support. We went so far as to remove the foam pad, which helped a little but did not look very good. The space in the big box was nice but with two side cases it is overkill unless you are traveling heavy. I sold it on Craig's list and bought the smaller BMW 28L case used on ebay. My wife likes the more curved shape of the backrest (without the pad) almost as much as the one on our old R1100RT. Problem solved.

think I misunderstood your question.

You were looking just for the rack??

GIVI is adjustable front to back.. Daughter complaine after first install that she was sitting too far forward that she couldn't text on her phone.. (OOOH the humanity)..

SO I moved the box back about 2 - 3 inches, and she was happy again.

Hi Bill
That is my CB antenna. Not too stylish but it is effective.
