First BMW & new to me K1200GT?

Just purchased a 2007 K1200GT. Has all the goodies as far as I can tell.

Currently in the shop for a recall issue. Altho maint. records show that the recall has already been done.
This is the one where the airbox has been replaced as evidently, there was an issue with a temperature sensor misreading, due to the airbox flow.
The bike is still having a problem with the throttle/idle sticking at approx. 3800/4000 RPM then "slowly" dropping down to a normal idle.
The shop (and me) has had a problem recreating the idle problem as the bike needs to be pretty hot when it occurs. Altho I've had it happen two weekends in a row, the second time with my wife on the back. She's is an excellent back-seater and is pretty unhappy about being bounced around. I also bought this bike from a BMW dealership with two years still left on the factory warranty.
Has anyone else had this problem after the factory recall work was done? Does anybody else's bike exhibit these same symptoms?

Thanks,

Bruce

Re: First BMW & new to me K1200GT?

Hi Bruce, and welcome.

It all depends how the "recall" was performed, and how far back. There have been at least three air boxes provided by BMW to try and sort this particular problem. Obviously, whatever one they installed hasn't solved your problem, so the dealer will simply have to pull it all apart and put in the latest-greatest version.

But you forgot to mention the most important factor: which color did you get? I hope it's not one of the slow colors . . .

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Thanks for the welcome meese -
I'll have to ask BMW which modification was used.

Please tell me what the slow colors are. Mine's Blue - nice color hope it's not one of the slow ones!!
I'm not suffering too badly as the dealership gave me a loaner/Demo, a 2009 K1300GT (Brown) is that one of the slow colors too?

Here's a pic of my 2007 K1200GT.

Hi Bruce, and welcome to the group!

What a great lookin' bike. Nice self-portrait in the faring, too. I hope you enjoy many fun, carefree miles with it.

And yes. The Deep Blue Metallic is the fastest color. That particular color absorbs sunlight in just the right way. The resulting black body radiation creates a thin turbulent layer which deflects airflow around the bike. The near-frictionless deflection results in a smoother, faster ride compared with the other colors.

We have determined after extensive research there are no slow colors for the 1300GT.

Re: First BMW & new to me K1200GT?

Welcome. I am a recent first-time BMW owner as well. Mine is a new (left-over) 2008 GT, blue as well.

Fun so far, but haven't had time to ride as much as I'd like...

Re: First BMW & new to me K1200GT?

Thanks all -

Smilodon - congrats on your 2008 (Blue).

I kinda think this like the "All Corvettes are Red" thing (altho mine's not), all BMW's are blue.

I've been able to put about 100 miles every weekend & another 30 or 40 during the week. Both on my K1200GT and the loaner K1300GT, so I'm starting to get feel for this BMW thing. Time to head up to Alice's.

The blue bike is beautiful!

Should I be saying "thank you for your service!"?, CH47Gunner?

Doppelganger -

Thanks for your compliment on the color.

And if it's appropriate, yes I served - U.S. Army 1969 -1972.

I actually tried to use another user name like Bruce (that would be me) but, it wouldn't take it. So I used the same user name I use in a bunch of other forums.

Re: First BMW & new to me K1200GT?

Was at the BMW dealership yesterday afternoon.
They've done all the "latest" modifications to the airbox. Now they've ordered a new computer for the bike. Part should be here Friday - I won't be, I'll be in Reno. Hopefully my bike should be ready by Monday.
Oh well, I'm not suffering too bad, I've still got the K13GT as a loaner.

Greetings Bruce and welcome to the asylum! The whole air box/throttle thing is ANOTHER BMW quality control issue and did not affect all bikes. I never had any prob's on my 07 and no mod's were made.

To expand a little on the GT's color "speed rating," all GT's since 06 have a special disgronificator built in. So technically, there is no such thing as a "slow" color. Hope that helps!

AND thank you for your service!

Re: First BMW & new to me K1200GT?

A 1300GT loaner!. That is very good. You just may like it a bit more than the 2007. I had a 2006 blue metallic and switched to the new 1300 in the deep blue ( fastest version). You should really enjoy the bike as soon as the airbox issue is resolved. I had a ton of fun on mine. My 2006 did not have the xenon lights and I did not like the servo assisted brakes on the 2006.
