Easy Oil Change On The Gt!!!

Wow...I just love how easy it is to change the oil on my '07 GT. I can do it now without spilling any oil at all and I only had to loosen one drain plug and one bolt on the lower fairing. SOOOOOOOOOO Easy!

Umm, wait until you start the bike and all that oil on the exhaust headers heats up (and you though the LT smoked oil . . . )

And I'm assuming that you drained the main tank under the seat as well?

But yeah, it's nice not having to pull the skid plate to get to the transmission drain plug.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Ken...Ken...Ken...I am an excruciatingly CLEAN mechanic!!!! There was no oil left on my pipes...I wiped it right off with a leetle brake cleaner before firing it up. Yea...and nice not to have to loosen THREE screws, remove a plate with a seal, and FINALLY do battle with an oil filter tucked up INSIDE the engine.

I figured you were smarter than that.

Wanna do mine next time? Heck, I'll even bring the bike to you. Right after Grif and I do the valve check at his place. If I can find a tire changer on the East Coast, I'll be all set.

"Honey, where are you going?"

"Oh, just to get the bike serviced. See you in a week."

Re: Easy Oil Change On The Gt!!!

Can't agree with you more good Pastor. I did my 3,000 mile service this past weekend and it was a breeze. Almost wish it took longer so I could enjoy working on the bike more.

Like many GT owners, I use a vacuum pump to suck out the oil in the sump tank. I have no desire to remove that flimsy drain hose, insert an old ear plug, and then snake it down to allow gravity to drain the oil over time. This way is much faster and cleaner in my opinion.

Also drained and refilled the final drive for the second time since bringing her home from the dealer. My thanks again to everyone who helped with that imbroglio. I must impart the syringe trick makes this service a snap!

Gonna be 80 degrees here in north Texas today. Darn straight I rode to work!

Ride safe,

David

True enough. Plus, I keep getting an extra 2-year warranty each time.

Re: Easy Oil Change On The Gt!!!

For the 600 mile service - must I take the bike to my local dealer to ensure I don't invalidate the warranty, or can I tackle the job myself?

You can do it yourself. Just be sure to keep receipts for oil and filter.
