The end of a period for me ...

After 17 years of K-bikes, I decided to go over to the otheRRRRRRR side of BMW bikes. Today I traded in my GT for a new R1200GS Adventure in full options. Delivery is expected at the end of the month.

Well, the adventure is a very nice bike - I like it.

Its totally different to the GS, and feels more 11xxGS/Adventure than the 12GS.

SO you now need HID dip, main, spots, and more weather.

See www.ukgser.com and www.nippynormans.com

Did you feel a need "to slow down"?

Re: The end of a period for me ...

Hid will be installed by the dealer (part of the deal, together with a Wunderlich 'cruise control'). High beam and fog lights will stay halogen for the time being.

I have thought about a GS for a long time (goes back to '04 when the 1200GS was introduced). The last few months I've been thinking of what I was looking for in riding the motorcycle: it's the fun, not just a means of transportation. I want comfort, luxury, lots of equipment and I some speed. The Adventure has it all and even tops the GT in fun factor. The huge amount of power of the GT can't be used here in this small country and for 2 or 3 trips abroad per year it's simply a waste. Last fall I went to the Intermot, in a group of 3 GT's and 1 GSA. Up to speeds of 100 mph we weren't able to lose the GSA and in the twisties of the Eiffel we even had hard times keeping up with the GSA. So, there's speed enough in the GSA.

Last weekend I had another test ride with the Adventure. That simply pushed me over the line....

The BMW spots are Hella units, so buy them as HID - far cheaper.

My HID Hella spots came from an outfit in Germany, in Achen I think, so not far for you especially with 33 litres in that tank

The BMW fog lights are part of a pack, so leaving those out will not save me much. I will probably do a hid conversion later on. For now I've run out of cash

Re: The end of a period for me ...

As I recall, the Hella HID are less than half the price of the BMW units (at HID)

I'm trying to think where I saw various cages for holding all the ballasts - it might have been at www.nippynormans.com but I'm not sure.

Congrats, you traitor! You'll love the GSA; when I sold the LT it was a toss up between the GT and the GSA. Since I hav a 95 GS in the garage I went for the GT so I could continue to justify having 2 bikes.
