New 2008 Gt's Less Than 16 Grand

Just Came From Max Bmw In Nh And They Are Selling New 2008 K1200gt Bikes For $15995 With Abs Heated Seat, grips, esa, xenon.

I Placed An Order For A Blue One That Is Coming In Tommorrow. They Have 30 More On The Way This Week, So Anyone Else Who Wants A Deal Call Max Bmw In Nh Don't Pay Attention To The Price On The Website. They Are Much Less Than That

Wow, 3 owners on an '08 already? Good to see that private commerce is still alive.

Only commerce was for the state.
Even though I bought it used, this particular experiment cost me a bit o $. Especially when you factor in the 7.75% sales tax.
Still stinging.

Tried a lot of bikes in the past 5 years. Lookin' for the one.
My recently aquired '05 R1200RT was an e-bay special. Should hold me for a while. For me, the R1200RT is about as close as can be to the doitall machine which I've been seeking. Had 2 now. An '07 and this '05.

I've done ok, bought 'em right.
'02 RT, '04GT, '05GS, etc., etc, tired of the buy/sell syndrome.

Hope I'm cured.

I am glad I paid 21K for my 08. With the 08 selling at 16K now , next summer of 09 the used ones will bring about 13K. Nothing like BMW value.

I was at the Indianapolis BWW dealership yesterday (12-10-08) and they had a demo GT on the floor with 2800 miles, for 15500. I am half thinking about it.

It's True - New 2008 Gt's Less Than 16 Grand!

After reading this thread ( and also stumbling onto bmwlt.com) It hit me like a ton of bricks - I want a BMW! I had been doing all the usual comparo's, the ST, the FJR, the Kawi, and was not really being drawn to any of them. They all felt wrong somehow. The fairings were too small, I hated the motor on the Honda, and nothing made me drool. Once I saw the K1200 GT - oh lord, I fell hard. I contacted Max BMW, and what a deal - $15,995, and they ship right to my door! Thank you whoever posted that information - my new ride will be here in a just a week or two, and I'm thrilled!

Re: New 2008 Gt's Less Than 16 Grand

After selling my LT, and then my FJR1300, I'm considering a GT. Looking for an opinions on a couple things: Comfort of the GT and the differences between the '08 and '09 - is it worth the price for another few more horses?

I loved the LT - put 50,000 miles on it and was hoping BMW would come out with a new version, but it isn't looking like that's the case. (besides the rumors) I loved the FJR, but after about 45 mintues, my knees would get stiff (ya, I'm getting old) and without a cruise control, it was hard for me to go anywhere near the distances I used to go on the LT (several 1,000 miles in a day trips)

So when looking at at GT, I'm wondering if this might be a good choice? I've ridden RT's and found them to be so tall (even with a 34 inch inseam) that I was always on my tip toes at stops. Is the GT the same geometry as the RT?

Any opinions would be welcome!

Thanks!
Scott

Opinions? On this site?

The RT/GT thing has been beat to death, and more recently, the '08/'09 thing as well. Here are the summaries:

The RT and GT are both extremely competent bikes, with similar but not identical missions. Some folks prefer the low end grunt of the RT, along with the more upright riding position and the slightly better wind protection. Some folks like the top end rush of the GT, along with the overall smoothness and competence that the newer suspension gives. Both bikes will eat up the miles like nothing else, but most riders tend to fall into either the Boxer camp or the Slant/4 camp.

So you have to ride both and make up your own mind.

As for the '08/'09 GT debate, no one but moto journalists have ridden the new K13's yet, so this is all based on fact sheets and initial reviews. The changes to the K13's seem to be evolutionary rather than revolutionary, but all are headed in the right direction (more power, smoother throttle control, more refined drivetrain, better suspension range, etc.). But the earlier bikes are very competent too, as long as you get things up to date with the latest recalls and service bulletins.

The deals to be had on the '08 and earlier GT's make an awesome bike into a phenomenal buy that many riders will be (and have been) quite satisfied with. But the '09 improvements are significant as well. So the real decision is down to you and your wallet.

Scott,

I loved my LT but I preferred my GT. The power to weight and the lower cg are the 2 most important issues for me (traffic safety). Interestingly, my wife also preferred the GT due to the seat and the suspension. She called the ride quality "the cloud." Regarding your body fit, the bar adjustments and seat heigth may work much better than the FJR for you. My brother in law has the R model and I do not like the R model as much as the four cylinder dry sump GT. Regarding 08 VS 09, BMW gave a big discount to the dealers to blow out the 08 models. I prefer to buy new and try to sell them at high prices with low miles. I study my net-net all in costs. The GT was the best from an operating/ownership cost perspective because I sold it early enough to get a great price ($15,500). Like you, I may buy an 08. I am waiting now for my dealer to give me the details on the 09 GT. She tried to call me Friday when she got home from the BMW dealer meeting in Las Vegas. If she has the details ready for me Monday I will update this. One feature I am interested in the 09 is traction control. I managed a power slid on the 06 (by mistake on construction silt) that gave me a good sized bruise and alarming swelling on my leg. I'm not certain I can find an 08 with traction control. My Porsche has PSM and I love it for both track and aggressive roaad riding.

RT VS GT for me is GT wins. Lower cg and lower seat.

Thanks guys for the point of view. I'm sure it has been discussed a lot, and I've been reviewing those posts as well, so thanks for your replies. I'll be test riding an '08 GT on Monday, and we'll see what that feels like and what kind of deal they might offer. I know every bike/rider combo is a personal thing, and the only in the equation who needs to be happy is me, but your point of view and experiences are very helpful to the process!

Be aware that the GT is a bike you have to get used to. An entirely different set of riding muscles are involved.

I want to see the red and blue. Because I bought 2 new BMW bikes from her, she is giving me pick of the litter... In the past she always discounted and gave me stuff like new charger, new helmet, new top case at 50 off, free cover or whatever. She knows I buy new and I have a really short attention span. She also knows KTM has been my client for a long time.

Re: New 2008 Gt's Less Than 16 Grand

Here is the status on 09 GT price.......

"Hi Rob, I will get you a price as soon as I get a price, no problem. Question, are you still living in Bay Village, for your appropriate sales tax? Regarding the painted top case. I would recommend Kent Holt in Athens for repainting the lid. Expect cost to be around $800 to $900 depending on the cost of the paint. I will be in touch as soon as I have the figures. Best regards,Pam"

Even though the bikes are due in less than 10 days, she still does not have price data.....

Re: New 2008 Gt's Less Than 16 Grand

UPDATE: Andy at Max BMW called this week - my bike is on the truck and on its way to the Northwest. Should be about 7 days until arrival. Would have been shiped sooner - but we just missed the window for the truck last week. They threw in a licence plate bracket with their store info on it....I dunno if thats gonna stay on there long....

Question - I've been looking at jackets / pants - the BMW stuff is so well built, the quality is amazing, but the price is way up there, and the styling is, well, kinda dull. Anybody wear Dainese? The have some nice Gor Tex stuff that looks excellent. Tried on some Olympia gear, but felt like I was dressed for snow boarding or a moon landing rather than riding. Black, Grey or eye killing highlighter yellow all were "OK" but just looked kinda flat. The Dainese stuff on the other hand - now thats some style! Opinions? I'd hate to spend some major bucks omn some stuff only to find I over-bought for the type of rinding I'll do. Suggestions?
