That bike is way too clean, Dick. You need to get out and ride more.

2,500 miles so far! Can't help myself, as I was potty trained too early! Hence, the name "Clean Machine".

Depends. There are curves on the Dragon that you set up like that.

If you'll take a close look at the first picture, you'll notice I had just exited an outside curve and was into the apex of the inside curve which was followed closely by another outside curve around the corner. The one thing you do not do at the GAP is cross the center line. Especially if you want to live to do it again. Many inexperience riders and drivers will cross over into your lane at the drop of a hat. The statement about the semi-trucks is true. Take a look at the pictures on the Deals Gap Tail of the Dragon site and you'll see what we mean.

Just need to build your faith in the GT Doc. She'll lean a lot further than that. Living where you are, I would go do a track day over at Road Atlanta. If you've never done one, you're in for the time of your life. Checkout Kevin Schwantz' Suzuki School.

Having said that, if you aren't interested in leaning further, and/or going faster ... forget about it! Just keep doing what you're doing and enjoy the ride. I know you already are.

On the left, I'm fully loaded with the topbox and seatbag.

Thanks for the link, Joe. That's enticing! At my age, I don't want to be sliding along the road or stopping abruptly (while sliding). I tried that when I was 17 y/o and ended up it the hospital for 2 weeks! I'm afraid I can't bounce back like I use to.

This ride was my first ride on roads that would push my abilities on the GT, as roads in my area are pretty flat and straight. I have been on just about every road in western NC on my Harley and LT. I did have a good time at the GAP and on the Cherohala Skyway. I just need to develope a little more confidence in my ability to push the GT and how close to the limit I can safely go with the GT. I don't want to cross the limit!

Thanks Jay,

I just wish I lived a little closer to the twisties so I could practice more often. I get up there 4-5 time per year. Now that I'm semi-retired and have the GT, maybe I can make that happen more often.

And that's why the track day suggestion is a good one. You can build confidence in a safe environment, with professional riders to guide you.

Quick - someone note the date and time: Ken and Joe agreed on something, and Ken actually... complimented it. This may be one of the signs of the Acopalypse...

Nah, that's more likely if Joe and I ever get the chance to ride together at more than 35 mph (damn Yellowstone speed limits).

As I recall, Friday morning in Jackson Hole, approx. 20 CCR attendees learned the hard way not to speed in Yellowstone. There's plenty of places to ride fast. National parks ain't it.

Well Doc, with the miles you've logged on other bikes, I don't see too much of a reason to hold back. I know when I first got my GT I was a bit apprehensive and soon learned that you can get yourself into BIG trouble quickly on that little rocket ship. Just ease into it but DO IT! Like the saying goes..."Ride it Like Ya Stole it!"

Ya look good on her...glad to see you got a bike you can play with.

Hi Woody,

Yep, I'm getting better about not twistin' that trottle. It's addicting at first. But that little GT sure does like the twisties. Me too!

Now there is good advice. As long as one is safe riding everyone should not feel pressured to go beyond thier own set limitations.
Ride on!
