3 Flags Classic

Was I the only GT of the 275 bikes entered? Other than the 3:00 AM start from Mexicali this was a fun 1,881 mile tour with great people to meet, lots of twisties, and spectacular scenery along the way to Nanimo, BC.

Temps ranged from 42 -103, speeds from legal to, well, er............surprising. Thank goodness for cruise and Valentine.

Having traded from an LT which was too wide to do it, I finally used my trip down to practice splitting traffic through LA, what a great deal. Every big city should make this legal. It was a bit "freaky" at first, (especially the bus/semi move) but with practice no big deal and a great way to keep moving.

Re: 3 Flags Classic

Is that the ride where you have to sign up early in the year and then get picked? I tried it a few (OK 10) years ago and never got in so I just gave up. It looked like a great time.

Re: 3 Flags Classic

You do & it was. My son drew a ticket first of the year, talked me into going as company which meant riding from WA to his place in San Diego and then to the start in Mexicali, and then couldn't go! So, I took his place and had a great time.

The sections through Virginia City, over the Sierras around Lake Tahoe, and over the Trinity Alps to the CA coast were epic.

I plan to enter the drawing this fall myself. I'm hooked. This was a great crowd of serious type riders.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Re: 3 Flags Classic

There were riders from Minnesota, Ohio, Kansas, NJ, England!, Texas, Mexico, Canada, OR, WA, CA (lots) and on. Some had ridden the event for 20 years.

I went in without a clue of what a big deal this was and came away really impressed. This was one of those "exceeded my expectations" deals.
