Givi E52 Maxia Topcase Pictures!

I've been wanting a topcase for sometime, but never could find a reasonable deal on the BMW 49 liter case. I went ahead and ordered the Givi E52 Maxia Topcase (52 Liters!!!) backrest and the mount for much less than the BMW one. Here are some pics of how it looks installed on an '07 GT. I may have to have it painted, but since I ride with a Silver helmet, it does "tie in" well. Opinions?

Re: Givi E52 Maxia Topcase Pictures!

I just got the BMW 49L case and I must say yours fits in with the styling of the GT at least as well if not better. I too am debating painting to match.

P.S. I got mine from Chicago BMW for 20% off so paid approx $660.

It's about as ugly as the BMW one. Slap a BMW roundel over the Givi logo and you'll be all set!
Doesn't Givi make panels in different colors to match the bike? I could swear I've seen a candy apple red one on a bike around here ...maybe not one that matches the dark blue though.
I like the reflectors on your sidecases, is that a particular brand or did you do it yourself with reflective tape?

Re: Givi E52 Maxia Topcase Pictures!

Yea, they do make "some colors" and I actually ordered this one in silver. Did not have the correct blue at all. It does "ugly up" the bike, but man...do I LOVE the extra storage. And...if I put a LOT of weight in it, it will REALLY do a wheelie!!!!

Ok Jack, I see you're showing off again! You're tempting me again....

Did you get the wired system for a brake light? I like the reflective tape too. looks like you might have an aftermarket windshield as well.

We gotta get together soon.

Hi Jack,

Nice case.

I have a BMW 49 liter case, but I am curious to know what the mount looks like for the Givi. Any chance you can post a photo of the rack with case off?

Looks great & will work great by itself w/o the bags. My son uses his Strominator that way in SD to split lanes.

You know you want to paint it, I would though it makes no economic sense of course. Also, it would look great to add the stop light (I always sell this type of deal to the wife as a "safety" feature). So, this is my next purchase as soon as I'm back from the 3flags.

You know the rule of bikes, buy high, sell low & make it up on volume.

I love these bikes even though mine is silver.

Yea...we do need to get together. What is next week looking like for you? Any days off so we can work on yours and install those farkles?

I did not get the wired brake light ($) but it can be added at any time.

The reflective tape works well and is BLACK in the daytime. Can't even see it, but when lights hit it...WHOA!!!!

I do have a CeeBailey +6 +3 on it.

I'll be moving my daughter to Charleston on the 15th. She's starting the fall semester at Charleston Southern University.

I know weekends aren't very good for you so it might have to wait till September. I'll be off Tuesday/Wednesdays then. Your GT is looking good these days, Jack.

I'm saving as fast as I can......

Re: Givi E52 Maxia Topcase Pictures!

Hi Jack,

I bought one of those boxes second hand (in like new condition) from another rider for my RT. I absolutely love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I took it on a 2500 mile ride up to Glacier/Yellowstone/Tetons and it comes in real handy. Goes on and off really easy, holds a ton of items. I won't mention what I paid for it (really cheap with other items), but even at retail it is well worth the money!!!!!

Terrific product.. Good purchase. Use it well!!!

You notice that although Jack sold his LT, there is an LT on a lift in his garage. That's Jack helping yet another LT rider. Probably fed him as well.

The LT rider's Modern English Paraphrase would read, "My slave cylinder was leaking, and you drilled me a weep hole. My brake fluid needed changing, and you gave me Speedbleeders".

Actually Jack and I are putting spiegler brake lines on my LT,
No I did not get fed, but if you want to come over and see how to put new spieglers on, bring some food.

Yeah, I went with the 45L plain black Givi. It matches my Black GT. If I had any other color, I'd have to paint it to match.

At $22k, I just could justify another $800 on a BMW branded top case!

Re: Givi E52 Maxia Topcase Pictures!

I bought the 49L BMW topcase with my new GT last week but I also have a 52L Maxia and a 36L Traffic. I'd love to be able to attach the Givi base plate so that it came off as easily as the BMW case (no bolts) so I could interchange between the systems for maximum flexibility. I love the 49L BMW case but for camping, the Maxia with its additional rack would be super!

A few people have mounted Givi or Harley luggage racks to the top of the BMW case, search around for pics.

That would probably be the best way to accomplish this. After installing the E52 on my GT...I believe it would be diffficult to accomplish it any other way. Not impossible, but more difficult than it's worth!

Re: Givi E52 Maxia Topcase Pictures!

Looks good.

By the way if you use the parts from your Givi kit you can put the other style plate on (mono lock I think). I had an extra top plate from my wife's kit that I installed on my bike so now I can use my wife's top case (E350) on the back of my bike, it's even a close match to my paint. The weird thing was that my Givi computer bag and her top case has the same key?!

Oh yea don't get the light kit because it works like... well you can guess.

Question Re: Givi E52 Maxia Topcase Pictures!

Is there an after market case that will mount directly to the BMW rack without an adaptor? Anyone ever tried a Coocase?

Jack - Givi doesn't list a mounting kit for the new K1200GT, only for the pre-2005 models. Did you simply take a mounting plate and bolt it to the rack of your bike (easy enough to do, I suspect)? I do have a spare mounting plate and am tempted to do a simple bolt-on. Suggestions?

Thank you!

Actually, I ordered the mounting plate through Twisted throttle and they had one - made by SWMOTO I think -- that mounted it right up and WAS designed for the Givi and the 2006+ GT.

BTW, a couple of months on it now and I LOVE it!

The 49L BMW case fits the RT as well as the GT. So the Givi mount plate for the RT fits the GT rack as well.

You'll need the mounting kit E193 for the R1200RT. Same rack.

There is a Givi Maxia E52 top case for sale at iBMW:

No affiliation; I just happened to notice it. I don't even know if the asking price is reasonable.

Thanks, Pastor Jack. I got on their website and found the mounting bracket.

The great thing about Givi equipment is its versatility. I have both the Maxia 52 and the Traffic 35 and love being able to interchage them as my needs demand. I've still not figured out which way to go now, since I bought my new GT with the BMW topcase. If only I could adapt the BMW case to the GIVI receiver...but I've exhausted that possibility. so, I may have a couple of GIVI cases for sale...

Re: Givi E52 Maxia Topcase Pictures!

Even more important may be the weight difference between the Givi and the BMW large box. I weighed mine because it just seems ridiculously heavy and yes, it weighs in at close to 20 lbs by itself. The Givi website shows there's to be about 1/2 that. Can you tell when you pick it up?

Hey Jack!

What was the cost of your Givi and does it have the LED brake light? I am close to jumpin' on the 2009 red K1300 GT and I'm goin' to follow your leadership and do GIVI, not the big silver (color matchless) ball like I had on my 2006 GT.

BTW, already ran up over 18K miles on the Porsche ragtop we grabbed last April.....

More than 132,000 (recently corrected higher) motorcycle riders have died in traffic crashes since the enactment of the Highway Safety Act of 1966 and The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966. Be careful out there.

The Givi E52 has normal bulbs - you would have to drill out to fit say Kisan tech light modules.

There is an E55 from Givi - no idea whether that has LED or not.

I mounted Kisan Tech blocks to the top of my BMW case - see http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/attachme...chmentid=21525

Re: Givi E52 Maxia Topcase Pictures!

The case looks good on your bike Jack. I have had my Maxia case for almost 3 years and at $320 (case/backrest, already had the plate) it is a no brainer vs. the $800 BMW case. I bought it from www.sporttouring.com. I like the extra wiggle room as well (52L vs. 49L) as well.

I would forget the LED brake light and add Hyper Lites to your bike. They are easier to mount and IMHO you can see them better.
