What tires are you using?

I've tried Bridgestones, Avons, and now the new Pilot Roads, and I still can't get more than about 4-5k out of them.

What are you guys using that offers the best mileage/grip combination?

Jeff, I have just about 10k miles of combat commuting, New Braunfels to San Antonio and back- roughly 100 miles- on the PR2's. I run 36 front, 42 rear.

Just Say No to Z6 on the GT. 4K at best, and they go from "Looks OK" to cords in less than one gas stop.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Re: What tires are you using?

I'm putting a set of Michelin Pilot Road 2s on my GT late next week. Will break them in with a day ride to Rick Mayer for a quick saddle adjustment then ride them to CCR. I'll just be happt to ge the stinkin' Bridgestones BT 020s off of there! I've heard good things about the new Avon Storms as well. I can't remember the number (55/56?) but they are aimed at sport touring bikes, and I think dual compound like the PR2s.

Jeff I've tried all of the a above and have gone back to Z 6's. I find they are actually more stable and wear better than all that I've tried. I know a lot of folks dont like the rear but you'll be Ok if you keep a close eye on it.

Of course only my opinion and since you know me, probably not worth much. Be sure you get the correct load ratings, C and K.

Re: What tires are you using?

I've got close to 7 on my rear Metzler and the tread is still good enough for me to ride it to NC this weekend from Iowa for a week of touring. The front Metzler must have almost twice that now.

06 K1200GT. I have run several sets of Avon Storms. 7,500 to 9,000 miles rear. Front will go 12,000 miles.
Just switched to PR2 800 miles ago. Can still see the flash of the mold seam down the center of the tires. Also they were easy to mount!

Norris,

How do you judge the PR2's over the Storms? Better? Worse? Just curious, since Ken seems to like the Storms over the PR2's and several tests in the past year put the Storms last and the PR2's first ...

Re: What tires are you using?

I had the original Bridgestone BT 020s on my 2007 GT. At 6600 miles, I picked up a nail in the rear. At that point, the rear was close to the wear bars, and the front was scalloped.

I had a choice of several tires. The Michelin Pilot Road 2s cost about 25% more than the others, but I bought them anyway. They ride well and have excellent grip on the turns. I put about 1000 miles on them since then. Most of my riding is urban or slabs.

We will have to wait and see how long they last.
