Just Added Suburban Machinery BarBacks...

My reasons for doing so can be seen in the "I Give Up" thread.

Now that the SMs are on the bike, I took a ride this evening, and it is different, but I'll be darn if I can tell exactly how. The strange thing is, if I want to, I can lean forward enough so my belly (a rather large one) almost touches the tank. This is not something I could do when the bars where all the way down. This surprised me.

Rode some twisties and do notice a difference in handling. Again, hard to put in words, but it felt not quite as nimble. Not bad, but not as effortless as with the bars all the way down. My imagination, or normal with the SMs?

Tomorrow will be a better test, going for a 200 mile trip, but my first impressions, were "something is different, but I don't know what."

Anyone else have a weird first experience with the SMs, or is it just me?

Re: Just Added Suburban Machinery BarBacks...

Hard to say. I rode my GT a total of 16 miles with the stock bars (home from the dealer) before adding the HeliBar risers. Then about 15K before swapping to the SM risers. After another 30 I won't go back, and in fact I still want just a bit more height.

I did notice that David's bike felt a little funny when I rode it a couple of weeks ago (stock bars) but I managed OK for the short ride.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Thanks, Ken.

I have the SMs in the lowest position. It's my understanding, I can raise them two more notches and still will have clearance for all the cables. Am I correct?

As I tell my congregation, "There is always a circus going on in my mind. Every now and then the doors open to the public." They love it. We sure have a lot of fun being REAL.

Yep, you can go up two notches, although things start getting tight at that point. Just turn the bars full lock both ways and make sure that nothing's binding.
