I pulled the trigger today

After months of agonizing and still trying to sell my LT, I went down to BMW of Fresno today and picked up a brand spanking new 2008 GT. I only put on a 100 miles today, but wow! As others have said, it just gets better with every mile and the big clincher was that after a little 20 mile test ride, Bev says she prefers it to the LT! That was my biggest concern - whether it would be comfortable enough for her, but she says it has less wind buffeting than the LT and more confidence inspiring in the slow stuff. This bike is a wolf in sheep's clothing - put it in COMFORT mode, keep the revs under 4K and everybody is happy. When you want to behave like a hooligan, that's easy too.

Looking forward to many miles and smiles.

P.S If anyone is interested here's the link to my LT. BTW I would accept a much lower offer than they are asking and they only advertise it on their site.

Re: I pulled the trigger today

Thanks y'all.
I miss you guys as well, even Grif . I have been lurking, but life is busy at the moment and the new job is taking more time than I hoped for. We are finally getting a bit more settled in CA - sold our Texas finally and my daughter sold her house, which we were living in here. So we played musical house for a while.

Hi to all, miss those RTE's and hope to see you all again soon. If not, roll on CCR.

Off to find those links from Grif and Joe about adding the farkles. I have had a set of Motolites that we got on the auction at last CCR - up until now no bike to put them on.

Will do. Homer and Tanner are good guys to work with. They now have a brand new location near the airport - very nice and big clean workshop.

Hey, hey, Brian. Good news today! And great to hear from you after a long absence. Congrats on the new ride, and really good that Bev likes it so well.

Sorry about the work thang gettin' in the way, but it does sound like y'all are settling in a leetle more permanent.

Can't believe Lone Star hasn't sold the consignment yet!! Guess Gary needs to beat the sales drum a leetle louder!

Well, sir - enjoy the new GT and have fun with the farkle projects. Chan might even loan ya his BFH if you need one!!!

Best Regards, Brian.

Nope, not yet. I put nekkid ole Toad under Hank's care yestiday. Got a second opinion that the starter is prolly the problem. Dave Moore zeroed in on that last weekend, here at the casa; and Hank called me last evening and on his own, suggested the same. He'll explore a few more 'potentials' next week, then if none found, will begin the gearbox removal sequence to get at the starter. Thinks it may be brushes (altho he hasn't heard of many going south), but not ruling out some internal goofiness.

I've enrolled in another MSF learner class, since I've been w/o a ride for six months!!!!

I bought a new K1200 GT in 2007, having sold my R1150 RT i the autumn of 2006. It has all the bells and whistles available except white blinkers. My wife and I had problems with the seating on the RT and I thought the CG was very high, impairing handling. The new bike is perfect, and we are very satisfied. The only gripe is the gearshift on the three lowest gears, which is somewhat agricultural. I am 5`11" and have a windscreen that is 50 mm higher, use a Scuberth C2 helmet and earplugs. With the windscreen on top it is very quiet but with some buffeting on the back of my helmet. I just inch the screen down a little and it is almost perfect. The RT behaved the same way. The only thing I miss from the RT is the engine sound, having grown up with two cylinder bikes. Am now looking out my window at the snow, waiting for the spring to arrive. Here in Norway that is in april/may.

Re: I pulled the trigger today

Hi, Tor.

I don't know what brand of windshield you have, but it is common to get back pressure (buffeting from behind) with larger windshields. One thing you can do is cut a vent hole in the bottom to allow some air to come through the windscreen and flow up the backside. You can see the vent in the pictures on the Cal Sci website. They would be glad to sell you a new windshield, but I know guys who have cut a similar hole in other windshields and said it really smoothed out the airflow.

Norway sounds like a beautiful place to ride. Be sure and post some pictures once things thaw out and you get to riding again.

Brian,

Good move. Welcome to the GT gang.

SO and I love our GT too. We have over 10,000 miles on ours. Can't wait for this snow to go away. We have been riding together since 1971 and she says this GT is the best bike ever.

We added the V-Stream by Z-Technik and my gal loves it a bunch over the tall GT shield.

We managed trips to PA and Canada last season. Her range on the GT is much better than the LT.

Rob,
Glad to hear that. I am thinking maybe Z-Technik for me as well. I need to do a longer ride to get a better feel for it, but the stock shield seems to be a little low. The wind doesn't bother me, but the wind noise does. My helmet, HJC flip-up, is not the quietest, but I like the rest of it.
