From one sheep to another:
I use "Purolator", which is highly rated due to the amount of synthetic fiber.
I'm out of town working right now, will post part # when I get home.

yup...checked that today and just ordered one from BMW. It just bites that you pay $15 plus shipping for one screw on oil filter.

Of course, you could order the factory oil filter (part# 11 42 7 673 541) from Chicago BMW for 20% off retail. And if you get 2 or 3 filters at a time and maybe an air filter (part# 13 71 7 703 583) the shipping costs get more manageable. You are planning on riding more than 6,000 miles, right?

Or you could just support your local dealer on small parts like this which helps when you need them to be there for the big stuff.

Besides, oil filters aren't that expensive, so why take a chance on inferior parts just to save a few $$ on the small stuff? Now brake pads, on the other hand . . .

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Man...that one hurt. But I agree with your line of thought completely. It's just frustrating sometimes when a dealer is so far away and you need one of those "small" parts. I pass three honda dealers on the way!
