Oil Change Instructions???

Allright, I know this sounds ridiculous, but are there any "special" things I need to be aware of in changing my oil and filter on my '07 GT? The tiny owners manual doesn't even mention oil changes and I don't have the BMW manual yet. Just don't want to mess anything up. Any instructions...tips...cautions...???

Funny...funny...funny. But I am serious. I know it is a dry sump engine so I want to make sure I drain it properly and such! What is the proper procedure?

Hi Jack, There's a plug under the engine, very little oil will come out as it's dry sump.

You can buy the special filter wrench, but I've found it's too big of pain to use. Have to loosen the shifter. Oil filter pliers work best. Make a sluice pan out of foil to direct the used oil when removing the oil filter. You don't have to remove the belly cowling, but I do, simply because it's easier (5 screws). There's a tab that holds this piece on, in the middle, after the screws are out.

Remove the passenger and riders seat, you'll see the oil tank. There's a clear straw that's removed by pinching the base and pulling straight up. Put an old ear plug in it after removing and snake it down to your drain pan. Loosen oil cap.

That's about it. Slow and messy the first time doing it, now pretty quick.

Thanks Grif...I appreciate it. I just didn't have a manual and didn't know if those german engineers had done something "funky" to get revenge for WWII

And Rich...NO, I no longer have the LT. Traded it in on the GT

You're welcome. Any other questions just scream. I rode mine home from the dealer and took it apart, even removed the gas tank. It's great farkling a CLEAN bike.
