Just joined the group! 2008 K1200GT

Hello, I'm new to the group. I just found and acquired a 2008 K1200GT in Killeen TX, and I'm currently in Austin TX. Hope to get situated and find some BMW community groups.

Re: Just joined the group! 2008 K1200GT

Welcome! You found the right place.

For additional K1200GT info, look at the forums on (and historical posts) at k-bikes.com and i-bmw.com as well. There is a lot of overlap between members at all three websites.

In addition, you can find a lot of helpful information and photo "how-to"s on BMWMOA's website. If you are not a member of BMWMOA, you might consider joining.

Enjoy your "new" K1200GT!

I just got a 2008 K1200GT, too. Actually, I'm picking it up at the dealer today. Looking forward to many long rides.

Welcome to the group. Lots of good help here. I'm new as well finally with an LT after researching and lurking around for the past several months!

Again WELCOME!

The GT is a real blast. I am taking mine up to the Smokies next week for some nice mountain riding. Oh and pay no attention to the man named Stevie in Austin.

Re: Just joined the group! 2008 K1200GT

I just picked up my "new" 08 gt as well. Found out from the local dealer " I stole it" at the price I paid..

Having a BMW was on my bucket list for almost 40 years and man, am I glad to have found such an incredible bike.. Put more miles on it in three days than I put on my Honda in three months.. So much fun..

Question? To make wifey happy, would the passenger foot pegs from an LT fit on a GT?? There is a "99 LT being parted out locally.

Thanks and woooo hoooo

I just picked up an 08 K1200 GT yesterday with only 14k on the clock. I like the bike so far but its like nothing else I've ridden. I currently have a CBR 1000 and Yamaha Warrior in the stable. Does anyone know where I can download a digital copy of the owners manual? There are so many switches that I'm lost working them. For example I couldn't figure how to turn off the left signal... Right worked just fine. I guess it's just sticking.
Also, I can't figure out how to cycle to the trip meters. Anyone know?

* Rider's Manual.
Start here:

BMW Motorrad International

-- Click on "K Models"
-- Scroll the list down, then click on + 0597 - K 1200 GT (USA)
-- For a 2008 K1200GT, click on "July 2007 onward"

* Turn Off Left Signal:
Click the cancel button with your right thumb. The cancel button is above the right turn signal, with crossed-out left and right arrows on the label. The same cancel button turns off both the left and right turn signals.

Hint #1: The turn signals auto-cancel if you are moving, based on time, speed, and distance. (It seems like 20 seconds to me.)

Hint #2: If you press both left and right turn signals as the same time, they will both blink at once as an emergency flasher. To cancel, click the cancel button.

* Cycle (Reset) the Trip Meters
Click the left rubber button in the dash to choose the desired trip meter. It alternates between Trip 1 and Trip 2. When the desired trip meter is displayed, press and hold the left rubber button down until it resets. (Be careful, if you let go slightly, you may switch trip meters and reset the wrong one.)

Enjoy your new K1200GT!

Here are some other sites that I find to be very helpful for "slant 4" K1200GT owners:

I-BMW.com -The Ultimate BMW Sport Touring Portal
K-Bikes.com - Excellence in Motion - Home

Think about joining the BMWMOA (BMW Motorcycle Owners of America). They publish a well-produced, slick magazine, as well as the "Anonymous Book." The Anonymous Book has a very large list with the contact information of BMW owners around the country who are willing to help other BMW owners. I have never needed it, but friends have told me that it helped them in a pinch. I always carry my copy on long trips, just in case. The BMWMOA website has many excellent maintenance and repair web pages, too.
