Second Tour Completed; Third Planned

Okey dokey, tour #2 since delivery complete. Used the high seat position with the Airhawk - no discomfort issues. Still wish highway pegs were possible. Still not missing the high COG from the LT.

A short tour this time. Went down to Taos first day, did the Enchanted Circle tour day 2, and returned to Denver the third day. All back roads, low(er) speeds, ~1,000 miles. Average mph - 47.2; Average mpg (according to my trip computer - I swear this is the reading) - 57.1!

Now have 5,000+ miles on the Grey Ghost. Next plan:

Saturday or Sunday - Day trip
Thursday - 6,000 mile service; new tires; safety check
Friday: Depart for Summer Tour #3:

Denver to San Luis Obispo (to Rt. 1)

San Luis Obispo to Seattle via Rt. 1 and 101, including Olympic N.P.

Seattle to Vancouver, BC

Vancouver, BC to Banff to Calgary

Calgary to Missoula via Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park to Yellowstone Park / Jackson

Jackson to Denver

I LOVE this machine!

if only for a moment
your recent trip is one of my favorites... and your intended trips have my mouth watering.
i would love to hear more about your Taos loop experience on the GT, if you have the time and inclination

Thanks for the update! I have 2k on my grey GT and have enjoyed each one!! My bike came with the Bridgestone tires and I'm wondering what tires you will purchase when you do your tire change @ 6k? I had the Metzlers on my 2 previous LT's and really liked em. Thanks again for the updates and stay safe!!

I had read about the Enchanted Circle in one of my mags in the past, and have always thought it would be a good 'quick trip'. I have to tell you that it was really a treat. Not long, but very scenic, and the number of different road conditions on such a small loop was astounding. Plenty of gas and food stops along the way, and some nice opportunities to explore some additional internal and external 'spurs' along the way; including a trip to the Taos ski valley, and 68 along the rio grande halfway to Santa Fe.

Well worth the trip, IMHO.

My GT came equipped with the Bridgestones. I had the 020s on my first LT when it was delivered, and had a bad experience with them (wore out with relatively low miles, and when they went, they did so very quickly in the middle of a tour).

Replaced them with the Metzlers, and loved them.

My current BStones are showing some/significant wear on the rear, but the front looks relatively new. I think I would have another 1000-2000 miles on the rear, and perhaps 2000-3000 on the front. I need to change them before I leave though, since I'm estimating a 5,000 mile tour and do not want to try to get a tire change on the road. Besides, my dealer will keep the stones for me if I want to remount them in the future.

When I scheduled the service and tire change, my service/parts folks indicated that the Metzlers are on back order and unavailable until around the 24th, and I'll have left by then, so I'm going to try the Pilots. When I return and change tires again, I'll go with the Metzlers, and be able to post a direct comparison of the three brands - at least for my riding style (non-aggressive / conservative).

Metzlers

If you really want the Metzlers, try Southwest Moto Tires. They're in Arizona, they have a great selection and they are F a s t. If you talk to the tomorrow or Monday, there is a good chance they could have the tires to you by Wednesday.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the info. I've heard good things about the Pilots, and think I'll give them a try rather than hope for a 'last minute' delivery to Foothills BMW in time for my service on Thursday.
