Re: Sena SM10 Firmware Update finally available

What problems were you having? I updated my SM10 on Saturday. The only thing the update does is boost the output volume if you double tap the button, it does not help with connecting with the Scala G4. Had to try the update 4 times before it would take. Kept getting USB driver errors and wanted to reinstall the USB driver 4 times before it worked (Windoze). It would start updating then lock up, 4 times, did I say.

Anyways, I don't think this update is a whole lot of benefit, to me anyways.

Re: Sena SM10 Firmware Update finally available

I am experiencing a very low volume for the devices connected via cables to the SM10 so I have to set the volume on my SMH10 headsets very loud. This king of conflicts with the volume I want for the intercom function (too loud).
So I hope this firmware update will help.

Re: Sena SM10 Firmware Update finally available

Gilles,
Something isn't right, each connected device to the SMH10 is supposed to have it's own volume profile. They designed it that way to avoid the exact problem you are having.

Re: Sena SM10 Firmware Update finally available

John, that is what I thought also however I never really got confirmation from Sena tech support. In addition to low volume I am getting a lot of noise from the GPS and the ESCORT connected by wires to the SM10. Waiting to receive the ground loop isolator so I can test for sound quality.
I don't think the tech understood my questions before answering...

Anastassia Tolpygo, Oct 15 16:50 (PDT):
Hello Gilles,
You would only need a ground loop isolator between the devices that are connected to bike power via USB cables to the cigarette chargers; for most customers this is between the radar detector and the SM10.
As far as the volume, each mode should indeed have its own volume level. The best way to assure this is starting with scratch after a factory reset so that all the bluetooth pairings are cleared. Then, I recommend pairing with the SM10 first and crank up the volume all the way on the SMH10. Then proceed with pairing the headsets together and turning it down thereafter. The SMH10 will remember the base volume of each mode (intercom and Bluetooth Stereo music) from the first initial setting onward. Hope that makes sense.

Best Regards,
Anastassia

Zippy Gg, Oct 15 11:07 (PDT):
Hi Anastasia,
The ground loop isolator you recommend is for the signal, which will be coming from a) a radar detector connected to the AUX port, and b) from a Garmin Zumo 665. Do I need to get 2 of these, 1 for each input?
Is there also anything I need to do on the power side?
On the volume issue I will pair my iPhone with the Zumo so I won't need a cable for that connection.
Is there a way to have 2 volume settings on the SMH10, one for the intercom and one for the signal coming from the SM10? This may be an advanced feature on the SMH10 I have not yet explored.

Re: Sena SM10 Firmware Update finally available

Gilles,

I too have asked the same question regarding the volume on the AUX port of the SM10. The update does make an increase in volume, but of the whole SM10 output I think (as I can't test, too bloody cold up here). I was hoping they would release an option to change the muting of the AUDIO port when AUX is activated. Hopefully in the next firmware update...before next spring.

I'll try to get the SM10 firmware updated and my PAC ground loop isolator installed this week and give it a quick test. I'll report back when done.

Phil, did you use a ground loop isolator? Or 2 (1 per input)?

Gilles,

Try to get your question to a guys named Dan Kim. He is a senior customer support engineer. I have his email as [email protected]. He helped me with the early firmware update issues with Windows Vista.

Sorry can't help with the helmet issue, I have a HJC symax II . To be factual I resolved the firmware up with Vista by tricking the OS into thinking it was using a bad driver and forced it to use the Sena driver. But Dan did get me on the correct track.

I just had the audio cable (from a previous wired system that didn't work) I had modified plugged direct from the LT's com port to the AUDIO in & the GPS (Montana) audio out plugged into the AUX.

I tried using a 'BoosterRoo' for the GPS audio as it wasn't loud enough even set at max. This worked somewhat but again I still think they need to have the AUDIO port mute or at least volume down so that you can hear the AUX input.

Using the 'BoosterRoo' I did get some feedback in the Audio, but found if I turned of the LT's audio system & then turned on again all was good.

The firmware update went very well on my Windows 7 64bit laptop.

Re: Sena SM10 Firmware Update finally available

Update: the volume coming from the SM10 to the SMH10 is now higher and no longer requires me to up the volume on the headsets! This indicates that the firmware update helps!
The PAC SNI-1/3.5 also really works well at taking out the hissing sound; I need a second one for the Zumo (I was switching back and forth between the Zumo and the escort to test). Only issue is that I had to thin out the plastic around the male plug coming from the PAC so it would fit into the SM10. That little bit of customization also makes the plug more waterproof/resistant.

Re: Sena SM10 Firmware Update finally available

Need some help from a bluetooth guru
I have 2 Scala G4's and would like my pillion to be able to hear GPS directions
if i get a SM10 and plug in the gps and pair to both G4's we will both hear the GPS, my question is will the intercom on the G4's still operate as usual?
Any help will be appreciated

It should, but that's assuming that your GPS can handle two bluetooth connections simultaneously. Mine can't.

I assume you are pairing the G4s to the SM10, and not to the GPS. I don't know of any GPS that can dual pair. So if you take the output from the GPS into the SM10, pair both G4s to the SM10 and pair the G4s to each other. You should get directions and rider to pillion communication. I don't have G4s so I don't know the communication priority of them so you will need to sort that out, I assume that the SM10 will interrupt you person to person communication with directions.

Re: Sena SM10 Firmware Update finally available

Well I gave the SMH10-11 a try but it looks like it is going back. I did get it to pair with the RT Audio System under certain conditions. I have a 2011 RT. Once paired if you turn off the audio system then turn it back on it does not connect again and the bluetooth icon on the RT just keeps flashing. To get it to pair you need to turn off the motorcycle and wait about 2 min for the "On" light to go out then turn on the bike and it will connect then. But, when I pair my Zumo 550 GPS to the Sena the BMW audio goes away. I believe the BMW manual indicates this will be the case. My requirement was to have the BMW audio and the GPS with my phone paired to the GPS, but this set up will not work. I may give their support one try but I am not too optimistic. Also, the Sena literature says the battery is not replaceable so when it is wore out I guess you trash the unit. Leave it to BMW to rig up their system so only the BMW communication with a hard wired GPS will give me what I need. I may consider the extra speaker hook up deal but I will still have the problem with the GPS. Oh well, gave it a try.

My smh10 pair to the BMW system and my Garmin sumo 660 every time.
A couple of points make it work each time.
1. Turn on SMH10 before you get on bike on start it or sumo
2. Next turn on BMW audio and pair it( leave on mute if you don't want to listen)
3. Turn on sumo after audio paired.

Works every time.

Re: Sena SM10 Firmware Update finally available

I think there is a thread regarding the RT Blue tooth. Also regarding the battery issue with SMH10, if you purchased the SMH10R it has a separate battery & is plug replaceable.

Any help will be appreciated
My experience is that this setup will work except... you cannot have the intercom cut in as in wired systems. There is no "priority" that can be set up like on the Baehr system.
My helmet units are Sena SMH10, and if I want to hear the GPS and radar detector that are wired to the SM10 I need to disconnect the intercom by taping on the dial jog; and if I select to have intercom I loose the sound out of the SM10. So for the time being I turn on the intercom with a tap when I need to chat, and I tap once again to turn off the intercom and get radar alerts and GPS directions.
Not ideal...

It does work, but I do miss being in constant chat mode with my spousal unit.
I also miss her ability to warn me quickly of traffic hazards, such as deer near the road, etc... Having to tap the unit and wait a sec or so before it operates as an intercom is definitely not ideal.
I hope the next generation of BT products will address this.

Yes love that with the Baehr and the k1200lt. Has anybody been able to get a Baehr and K1600 combo to work?

Just Go
