Question AutoCom Help

I recently found an AutoCom control unit on my LT that I didn't realize was there when I bought it (I also found 1 lead that I assume runs from the headset to the connector cable coming off of the control box). I wasn't able to find any model name/number, but I did find a sticker that says it was tested in '02. Here's what it looks like:

I found that the "Music Input" wire leads into the left side of the trunk box (near the passenger power outlet) with a bunch of other wires - can't figure out why it would run into the trunk box, unless it was spliced into the speak wires? The Aux 2 line runs along the frame under the seats towards the front of the bike, I'm assuming into the stock radio system.

Also, I found three connector cables. Two look like this:

I'm guessing that these are the cables that connect to the headsets.

The other cable looks like this:

Not sure what it would connect too, but it's a short cable and will only reach out a few inches past the side of the trunk box.

Anyone with any thoughts/insight as to what I have (or how to find out) would be greatly appreciated!

Re: AutoCom Help

Thanks for the reply, Bill. I think you're spot-on with the Pro M1. Found some other literature on the AutoCom site that may explain how this was set up.

Now, to figure out if it still works.....

I sure will. My original thought had been to get a helmet kit here if I could determine that the control box works. After thinking on it, I'm not sure how much I want to spend to get use out of the M1 as opposed to buying a new set up since the M1 is going on 10 years old (at least) anyway. How is your M1 holding up (aside from the mic issue)? Any thoughts on whether it's worth to try and get some use out of it?

Thanks for the help, and I'll keep you posted if I come across a mic

Unfortunately, the M1 my big brother has works fine. We can hear him during rides (we use bike to bike FRS/GRMS radios)

I actually like mine a lot. Mic crapped out after six years, and I stole my wife's. She'll want another sooner or later...

Re: AutoCom Help

After perusing the net this morning, not only have I sourced out big bro's "Unobtainium", I've found a source for AutoCom parts/accessories in the states...

http://autocomdirect.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=2074

I emailed ([email protected]) this morning and received a reply shortly after (on a Sunday too!)

Re: AutoCom Help

VOX: "Totally reliable voice activation (VOX) that not only turns the
microphones off when you are not speaking, but instantly turns
them on when you do speak. Plus has Side-tone, so you hear
your own voice when speaking which ensures that you always
speak at the correct levels without unnecessary shouting, and
you get the audio confirmation of correct VOX set-up and use."

This is from a 2005 catalogue... seems as they are updating their site they are deleting links to old (and useful) information.
I've got a bunch of documents and tidbits I've downloaded in the past, including LT wiring instructions.

Re: AutoCom Help

Thanks MotorDaddy79 and CWS for the documents.

Is it possible to use iPhone for calls with the Pro-M1? The documents did not mention how to integrate a phone for calls with the pro-m1.

Re: AutoCom Help

I have an older unit (Super Pro AVI) and ran a standard cell phone (three wire) to port one of the unit for a long time. When I ran my Droid (four wire) on port 1, I could receive calls but they could not hear me. Then I found out port 2 was for "stereo telephones" (four wire) and everything started working. Not sure if the M1 was ever meant for a four wire phone like the Droid or iPhone.

Oh and the grey cable is for a radio adapter - either CB or FRS and there was a PTT cable that could tie into it.

John,

Is the phone cable a standard 3.5mm jack? If so, then J&M makes a 3 to 4 pole cable. It is labeled iPod, but it worked on my Android when I used to have an OEM intercom.

I still have it if you want it. I just have to find it.

PM me if it will work for your system.
