Bluetooth headsets and audio sharing.

Need new cables for the 6 year old J&M set, and thinking of cutting the cord!

Looking at G4 vs. SMH10 and have some questions:

Is audio sharing an option with iPhone bluetooth as source? If not, what if I use the 3.5mm connection, does it work then?

I keep hearing about the 3-4 second VOX delay, has that been improved with updates?

The LT FM is not the best, is the Scala at least comparible?

If I go with the SENA, can I get the LT FM into it with 3.5mm or bluetooth adaptor?

My SO will not be too patient with the learning curve, which is more user friendly?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Bluetooth headsets and audio sharing.

havent actually tried audio sharing on the G4 but I can tell you the delay is still an issue But I have learnt to accept it, I use the button wait 3 seconds and start talking and I dont push the button again till finished. when we ride together (2 bikes) most times I lock the chanel open then it is always on.

Fm is a bit weak but when its locked on very clear the secret is having the speakers right next to your ears

Re: Bluetooth headsets and audio sharing.

As far a audio sharing is concerned it won't work. We tried the Scala G4 paired it with a Garmin Zumo 665 which we have XM radio hook to. We could talk back and forth with no problem but only I could hear the Garmin and satellite radio. A quick call to Scala confirmed you cannot do this. She has to have her own music source. They told me that this is a bluetooth limitation. I also called Sena and they also confirmed this cannot be done. Ended up sending the Scala G4 back and were back to our wired system which works. Bluetooth is great for one rider or two riders who want there own music source but sucks when it comes to sharing a music source. I did find some information on a new Chatterbox model that I think will allow this and I even found a You Tube video showing how it works. I decided to not pursue the Chatterbox when I found out that you can only expect about 6 to 8 hours on a charge and we need more than that. I think that at some point in time this issue will be cleared up but at least for now were sticking with the wired system.

Re: Bluetooth headsets and audio sharing.

I explored all this also and found it wouldn't work. After it was all over the wire appears to be a lot less hassle than having to charge all of the bluetooth items.

Check out sierra electronics for replacement cords ...they have good prices.

Check out J&M's Blutooth headsets.

I have one. Passenger hears everything I do and we can talk. There is no VOX activation, intercom is always hot. Now this is with me Blutoothed to a Garmin 665 and the passenger hardwired to my headset. Tjhey hav a new firmware upgrade and noew firmware already loaded on their new headsets that allows Pairing of the Nave and phone to the Driver headset and pairing of the passenger head set to the driver headset.

Thier Bluetooth headsets are firmware upgradeable. MIne is on V.12. But I can send the control unit in to them and get it upgraded. to V.14

Addtionally thier premium headset speakers sound fabulous and with the 665 XM/Mp3 are stereo Bluetooth!

Re: Bluetooth headsets and audio sharing.

I looked at the J&M bluetooth headsets and figured if I had to have a wire between myself and my wife I might as well stick with what I have. It just defeats the purpose of going "wireless" and I also wasn't thrilled with the "all sales are final" issue that jovano brought up. Helmet maker Nolan also uses a cable between the rider and passenger to allow sharing of a music source on their N-Com communication system.

I guess the wire is a big deal if you ride 2-up all the time. My wife seldomly rides with me so it was not a big deal to me. But, the wire is no longer needed with their newest firmware upgrade! Fully wireless.

All sales final has not been a problem, since everything works handsomely, the contol unit is upgradeable and they have a 2 year warranty and their customer service is excellnt.
