communications

I recently bought a relatively inexpensive chatterbox hjc-frs communications system, thinking it would work better than the old beat on the back system the wife and I have perfected over the years. The first time Kathy had it on, the mic tickled her, so she pulled the wires to relocate the mic...and pulled them off. I tried to resolder them..but the darned thing didn't work again, so I bought another headset. So far I'm not very happy with this system. Even with the vox sens set at the highest your have to talk really loudly to activate the voice. I usually wear earplugs. I wonder if I'll be able to hear it underway [haven't tried yet] Did I just waste my money trying to get an affordable system? I should have asked or searched for some advice on a system before I started spending, I suppose. In any case, would anyone care to enlighten me as to their favorite intercom/interbike communications system? Thanks in advance for your experience. After looking around I found the subforum re intercoms/radio communications...Sorry to have posted this here.

Re: communications

Lartross, I purchased a used and rather old Autocom on ebay for slightly over $100.00. It had everything included with it and I've had it now for nearly 4 years and it works great...my wife and I have no problems with the mikes or earphones (which are no longer stock...I replaced them with stereo quality speakers from a quality headset as per info. on this forum) I haven't had any experience with any of Autocom's newest line...but if it's built like their older products it's great.Just my two-cents worth--I'm sure you will recieve other opinions soon...this is almost as exciting as what kind of oil do you run--or if one should have dyna-beads added to ones tires...
