GMRS/FRS Suggestion for Voice II

In my search of the forums it appears that the Kenwood Freetalks are plug and play. Unfortunately, Kenwood has abandoned the GMRS/FRS market.

What is the best choice for as seamless integration to the Voice II ststem?

Thanks!

Nothing.......! At this point there is nothing that will plug N' play unless you make your own connection or have it made... The fine BMW folks found it easier not to offer too many options. I have the schematic posted for an Icom harness that is pretty easy to make, if you can solder... Or as I found out today have copious amounts of shrink wrap and twist them together!
Also our very own Raffy has the radio...here.

Let me know if you need any help...I take visa and Master Card

I may have another Voice cable already made up....

Re: GMRS/FRS Suggestion for Voice II

The UBZ-LH14 (FRS) and TK-3131 (GMRS) are discontinued and are surely in short supply if available anywhere.

Without changing the size or brand of the radio much, the common solution appears to be buying a TK-3130 and requesting your vendor to program it as either of those first two radios. That solves the problem. The spkr / mic plug appears to be the same as the other two, and that's the important thing if your intent is to use the BMW cable. Here's more info on that. Not endorsing these vendors, just providing some resources to expand on the statement above.

You may be able to find used LH or TK radios or even older UBZ-LF14. They all work with the BMW cable.

BTW, these folks appear to have QTY 3 TK-3131 in stock.

These folks "carry them" as well ... no inventory shown.

Again, no endorsement of either, just sources for you to investigate in order to solve your bike-to-bike problem as easily as practical.

We'll see who's shorts out first. Oh, that's right, yours already did!

At least we've cracked the code on the BC3 to ICOM wiring. Very nice!

And it worked on Barbara...not the green hornet stuff though,. a cricket or two must have chewed the wires!!!

And sorry for steering you wrong James.... I stand corrected the Kenwoods are still available...Thanks Sean, now I have poop on me!

Re: GMRS/FRS Suggestion for Voice II

There actually is a plug and play solution but it requires a bit of radio programming. Look on e-bay for the Puxing UHF radios. These are ham radios and are not suposed to be used on the GMRS/FRS frequencies. How they are sold and imprted into the US is beyond me because they are not "type accepted" for use on the unlicensed bands by the FCC.

That matter aside, they do work and from what I have read, work quite well. They use the same connector cables at does Kenwood. Any Kenwood cable will interchange with these things.

You'll need to do a little work when you get it. You will need to program memory settings that correspond to the recognized GMRS and FRS frequencies and you'll need to figure out the "PL tones" which are the privacy settings that correspond to the typical GMRS radios. This is all easy to do and a quick google search will get you the complete frequency listing.

One bit of caution is in order here. These radios are ham radios. Ham radio operators get licenses and know exactly where they can and can't use the various frequencies. Do NOT just start using random frequencies. That is very illegal, rude and unethical. Stick to the GMRS/FRS channels and leave the rest of the band to those who have licenses to use it.

I didn't realize it was about taking credit. I thought it was a mutual celebration that we had once again defeated the evil plans of BMW.

Re: GMRS/FRS Suggestion for Voice II

Has anyone got an update on a viable plug & play solution to using a two-way radio?
