New C3 Pro and Sena 20S

Just updated Kathy's helmet to a C3 Pro.
Her Nolan is already a few years old and has an old Sena SMH10.
To port her old Sena to the C3 I would need to get an adapter, as I have on my C3.
Then I started thinking about also upgrading her comm system to the 20S.
Not having one on hand I am not sure if I also need to get an adapter.

So 2 questions: Should I upgrade her to the 20S? If so, do I need an adapter?
TIA

I just replaced my Chatterbox X1 slim to a Sena 20s and I really like the 20s. The technology is newer and it seems like the unit is more reliable.

I though the jump form the SMH10 to the 20S would bring new features.
What helmet do you have?
I currently have an older C3 and may be switching to a Shoei...

You might look at the Sena SC 10U that is now being offered as a custom fit for C3 and C3Pro. It has Bluetooth 4.1, and therefore can communicate with 2 devices (2 phones, or phone and GPS) at the same time. Haven't seen any reviews of it yet.

Re: New C3 Pro and Sena 20S

The 10U and 20S both have bluetooth 4.1.
Some of the advantages over the SMH10 include much clearer intercom, much better noise cancellation when you are talking, being able to connect to multiple devices at once, and also audio multitasking. This means that you can have the music on (radio or bluetooth music) in the background while you are having an intercom conversation. You can also get GPS directions while talking and still listening to music. It's pretty cool.

There are a couple of advantages to the 10U, as stated above. The form factor is much sleeker, but for full funcitonality, you need a remote control that replaces the multi-wheel thingy on the 20S. May or may not matter to you. The 10U cannot be charged while you're using it. Again, may or may not matter to you, depending on how long you ride and if you forget and leave the intercom on, draining the battery.

I needed to use the sticky mount for my 20S with C3 Pro, before making a modification to my helmet that many would not want to make, in order to use the clamp mount. Also, the 20S has to be mounted a little further back on the helmet than I'd prefer, due to the sunshade mechanism.

For me, needing the remote (Sena now makes a smaller remote, but I don't have room on my handlebars for it.) and not being able to charge while using made me choose the 20S. YMMV.

Re: New C3 Pro and Sena 20S

I ended up buying 2 C3Pro helmets for my wife and myself, and got a great deal on a pair of new 20S.
I was pleased to see that Sena includes the sticky tab you need for the C3Pro.
Sena also recommends replacing the original boom mike with a shorter version, also included in the box.
I know some people don't like the stick-on method and prefer the clamp method, however I never had an issue with the C3 I am replacing and the SMH10 glued on in spite of using that setup for the past 6 + years in all sorts of weathers.
Testing will begin mid-week, after I get my helmet (had to be ordered in my size). Wife's helmet is all set.

The 10U is fitted to the C-3 and has lots of features.Good sound quality etc... Only complaint I have is with the microphone. It touches my lips and irritates me some but not terrible. My helmet is the Neotec but they are very similar. Steve

Thumbs up Re: New C3 Pro and Sena 20S

Initial testing completed in about 800 miles!
My wife loves the C3 Pro, which weights a lot less than her previous Nolan.
The Sena 20s setup worked great and we could have conversations at 70-80 mph.
Only issue we had was totally unrelated to the new gear: the Zumo 665 misbehaved terribly, was not aware of a city called Charlotte (our destination) and routed us through loops several times... Gotta look into the warranty of that thing.
Otherwise all was well. And BTW we got caught in a deluge shortly before getting back home, and both glued-on headset did very well.

Re: New C3 Pro and Sena 20S

I am really intrigued by the Sena UPAD.

https://www.sena.com/product/10u-pad/

Currently having zero issues with my 4-5 year old SMH10 and hope it holds up long enough to see feedback on the sound quality of these sleek new offerings from Sena. It looks like my Shoei RF1200 is one of the limited helmets they currently offer it for. I primarily use my Sena for music so I upgraded the speakers in my old unit (but am still not fully satisfied with the sound when I want significant volume.) I kind of doubt the UPAD will improve on this front, but can hope ;-)

Am hoping to see user feedback in the forum on these units at some point.
