Sena 20s issues

RE: 20S-
Purchased June 21, 2015

Wife and I out for vacation. Bike- BMW LT,

Connected to 20s:

1. Garmin 660LM
2. Iphone 6
3. Wife’s SMH10
4. (wish Escort would work!!)

COM was really good until- the Garmin came on. It was super loud. Very distorting to the speakers. I turned it WAY down.

Then I could not talk to my wife. I had to turn the volume way back up and she would have to hit her Intercom button on the SMH10. They we were fine till the Garmin came back on….VERY LOUD. Painful.

I went into the 660LM menu, VOLUME. Garmin Message is to adjust the volume with the connected Bluetooth device, ie. 20S.

I then went into Garmin menu to MIXER and adjusted all mixer levels to 10%. This did not help.

So, my wife turned off the SMH10 as I could get navigation and talk to her. When the Garmin announced, it was super loud with distorted speakers. Turned down to an acceptable level.

The next time it announced, it was again super loud. Turned down again. Repeat- Repeat- Repeat…!!!

Useless and painful to the ears.

Also, it seems that when in COM with wife, we have Bluetooth un-pairing and she has to re-push the pairing button. Again..aggravating.

Last week before we left, I connected both with the SENA software to updated all firmware as this has been an issue.

At times, I think we loose power and have to power from bike- even though they just came off the charge less than an hour before.

So, what to do?????

By the way, I sent request into Sena via their Help Desk and via email. No response for almost a week. Have they gone on vacation?

Re: Sena 20s issues

I had the same issue with my 10S. The volume adjustment on the Garmin worked for me by just turning down the Master Volume on the mixer. Did you check to see if there were any updates for the 660LM on Garmin Express?

Re: Sena 20s issues

I have the Escort 360 Max connected to the Sena 20S through a Sena SR10. I did have to hook the SR10 up to a ground isolation loop but now I have my Phone, Nav, Audio and Radar Detector all connected via Bluetooth. The pairings are a bit tricky in order to establish the right priorities but it CAN be done.

Re: Sena 20s issues

I did mine a different way when I used the SMH10 on my RT. I upgraded to the 10S when I got my K13GT and dropped the amp and Escort 8500.

Re: Sena 20s issues

I'm still running the SM-10. It drops the connection after a while, esp. on the interstate when there's no further instructions to turn off for many miles. Otherwise, I think I'll stand pat on the 10 till Sena gets the bugs out of the 20

Speaking of such devices, have any of you had a look at Schuberth's pending solution to the helmet communication problem? Have a look at the info on the new C4--no more tacky add-ons glued or clipped onto the helmet. The system is built right in to the C4:

Re: Sena 20s issues

I'll probably go back to a Shoei Neotech for my next helmet. The C3 that I have isn't all that it's cracked up to be. The flip down lever for the visor broke and the pinlock never stays in place.

Re: Sena 20s issues

OK, so here are the directions I put together to connect my Nav, Audio, Phone and Escort Max 360 to my Sena 20S

1. Clear Pairings from all Devices
a. SENA 20S
i. To restore the 20S to factory default settings, press and hold the Phone Button for 12 seconds until the LED shows solid red and you hear double beeps. You will hear a voice prompt saying “Factory reset”.
ii. Within 5 seconds, press the Jog Dial to confirm reset. The headset will be restored to factory setting and switched off automatically. You will hear a voice prompt saying “Headset reset, good-bye”.
iii. If you press the Phone Button or don’t press the Jog Dial within 5 seconds, the reset attempt is canceled and the headset returns to stand-by mode. You will hear a voice prompt saying “Canceled”
b. Sena SR10
i. Turn on SR10 by holding PAIRING button and PTT button for 1 second.
ii. To restore the SR10 to factory default settings, press and hold the Pairing Button for 12 seconds until the LED shows solid red.
iii. Within 5 seconds, press the Pairing Button again to confirm reset. The SR10 will be restored to factory settings and switched off automatically after the blue LED flashes several times.
iv. If you don't press the Pairing Button within 5 seconds, the reset attempt is canceled and the SR10 returns to standby mode.
c. Mobile Phone - follow phone directions
d. BMW AUDIO - navigate to bluetooth pairing - delete all
e. BMW NAV V - Navigate to bluetooth settings unpair all/
