The word according to Dubya: 50 religious insights from George Bush

I think this belongs in the Humor forum, but then again I'm not sure......

38. One of the most -- I think one of the most important and interesting domestic initiatives, which I agree has created an interesting philosophical debate, is to allow faith-based programs and community-based programs to access federal money in order to achieve the results we all want. I mean, for example, if you're trying to encourage people to quit drinking, doesn't it make sense to give people somebody an alternative -- he can maybe go to a government counselor? Or how about somebody who calls upon a higher being to help you quit drinking? All I care about is the results. Sterling, Virginia, Jan. 19, 2006

39. Every new citizen of the United States has an obligation to learn our customs and values, including liberty and civic responsibility, equality under God and tolerance for others, and the English language. Tucson, Arizona, Nov. 28, 2005

40. We have a calling from beyond the stars to stand for freedom, and America will always be faithful to that cause. Washington, D.C., Jan. 19, 2005

41.Secondly, it's really important, Pete, that people not think government is a loving entity. Government is law and justice. Love comes from the hearts of people that are able to impart love. And therefore, what Craig is doing is -- he doesn't realize it -- he's a social entrepreneur. He is inspiring others to continue to reach out to say to somebody who is lonely, I love you. And I'm afraid this requires a higher power than the federal government to cause somebody to love somebody.

42. We don't believe that freedom is America's gift to the world. We believe freedom is the God Almighty's gift to each and every person in the world. California, Oct. 15, 2003

43. I believe that, as I told the Crown Prince, the Almighty God has endowed each individual on the face of the earth with -- that expects each person to be treated with dignity. This is a universal call. Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, Jun. 3, 2003

44. All of you -- all in this generation of our military -- have taken up the highest calling of history. You're defending your country, and protecting the innocent from harm. And wherever you go, you carry a message of hope -- a message that is ancient and ever new. In the words of the prophet Isaiah, "To the captives, 'come out,' -- and to those in darkness, 'be free.' Aboard the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, a couple of miles away from San Diego May 1, 2003

45. It's so inspirational to see your courage, as well as to see the great works of our Lord in your heart. Nashville, Tennessee, Feb. 10, 2003

46. As Dick mentioned, we mourn the loss of seven brave souls. We learned a lot about them over the last couple of days, and Laura and I learned a lot about their families in Houston, because we met with them. My impressions of the meeting was that there was -- that Almighty God was present in their hearts. Washington, D.C., Feb. 6, 2003

47. It's also important for people to know we never seek to impose our culture or our form of government. We just want to live under those universal values, God-given values. Washington, D.C., Oct. 11, 2002

48. Yet we do know that God has placed us together in this moment, to grieve together, to stand together, to serve each other and our country. Ellis Island, New York, Sep. 11, 2002

49. The reason I'm -- asked [these AmeriCorps workers] to join us here is because I want you to know, America can be saved one person at a time. Green Tree, Pennsylvania, Aug. 5, 2002

50. Government can hand out money, but it cannot put hope into people's hearts. It cannot put faith into people's lives. West Ashley High School, Charleston, South Carolina, Jul. 29, 2002

Funny, I see a whole lot of disturbing things in there. Not the least of which is W and Cheney dressed up as the Blues Brothers (see quote #1).

I figured as much (hence the Blues Brothers comment). But isn't it telling that it's so easy to believe any of those could have come from W?

George is human. He struggled early in life and realizes that only through the Grace of God has thrived.

George has my respect for speaking his heart.

You're aware of my different views on religion, but let's just say that I think W has taken things way too far and has significantly damaged this country and its freedoms. I knew we were in trouble when he started referring to a Holy War and the Crusades right after 9/11. That alone shows how far out of touch he really is.

He hides under the banners of religion and national security, then uses terror and fear to manipulate folks and pursue his own twisted agendas. I know he's had a tough job of it with many things out of his control and that there is a real terrorist threat out there, but his actions and responses have done more damage to America than they ever could. When all is said and done, I think he will go down as one of the worst Presidents in US history.

I have to disagree with that (no surprise there ). Honestly, I could care less about Clinton (either of them) and his outright lies were a shame to the office (though unfortunately not unusual). But what he did was mostly damaging to himself and his own reputation. Bush's perilous foreign policy, the police state he's trying to enforce at home, his abhorrent fiscal policy, and the lies he's telling to justify it all are things that we'll be cleaning up after for years.

I wish we had a better candidate to replace him (from either side, really), but I'm just not sure we do, or if we did that the voters could recognize it.

Ask the American soldiers of today.... I do... and it's THEIR words and lives that are on the line.

.... don't forget our wounded brothers and sisters.. more surviving today than before.

Really want to know... sure you do.. you can handle the truth.. .... go visit them... I'm sure there is a VA hospital in your town.... or within 10 hours drive... see if what you get from these young Americans match those from our day... and see if what is being said matches what they are saying here and in the media....

anything other than the words of the Solidier, Marine, Airman or Sailor is not worthy....

Right, because why would we want to care about the opinions and beliefs of the populace that they're actually protecting?

I have a great respect for the soldiers, doing a tough job and laying their lives on the line again and again. And yes, the media is distorted beyond all reason. But when those in charge keep putting them directly in harm's way based on nothing more than innuendo, scare tactics, and downright lies then that's where the real problem lies, and that's what needs to be addressed.

Those in uniform can't stand up for themselves against their leaders, as it goes against the very foundations of the military. But us "normal" folks can, and actually have a responsibility to do so. Sure the world is a dangerous place, and there are times that we need to engage the "enemy" directly. But forcing accountability and making sure that their lives are not wasted by self-serving politicians is how we thank the soldiers and their families for their sacrifices. That role is every bit as important as those who actually wear the uniform, and it is done for those who wear it.

With all do respect, I don't have to go anywhere, we talk to them everyday.
4 family members from my shop two brothers' 1 nephew and 1 cousin are all deployed on active duty 2 Jarheads E-6 + E-4, a Soldier E-6 and a Sailor E-3
(dumbass jarhead nephew, is too much like his Unclerock, got busted down to E-4, but lost no troops in his action and it is under review)
The Staff Sgts are both on 3rd tour, Cpl on 2nd, Joe is ship board 1st in the Persian gulf.
The media is as big a liar (if that is possible) as George W. Bush, I don't put much stock into anything they say.

Rock, with that much Military in the family tree, you would really like the people who participate in the Patriot Guard. AND you would appreciate the mission. If you want any info, drop me a PM and I'll hook you up with them in your area.

Please just let it go. Maybe just go for a nice, long ride somewhere instead.
