Question Street Pilot V 1?

Hi Gang, so much good information here... I didn't look to hard to see if I could find the anwser, but maybe someone can help me. I am looking at a used 2003 with a Garmin GPS installed. It works, but the seller doesn't have a CD-ROM. Should there be a CD? What about a CD from another Garmin GPS unit?

This is the unit on the bike...which one (model / version) is it???

Thanks!

The CD contains the MapSource (you can have it from a buddy) and the detailed maps (you cannot have it from a buddy... key protected).
You can buy those and the price is about $150 for whole USA. There are many options you can check here:

Hope it helps

That looks a lot like an SPIII ( Street Pilot 3) an older and slower unit. They originally shipped with a CD. You loaded maps into your PC computer and then transfered desired mapsets to the SPIII. Card sizes are 128mb and 256mb. Enough for about 4 to 6 states.

You will need a CD and you will need the unlock codes should you decide to upgrade the maps.

You should ask the previous owner how he loaded the maps into the unit. He would have needed the mapset on a computer WITH the appropriate unlock codes.

Finally, if the unit is junk. It only represents a $200 loss or so. These units are becoming dinosaurs.

Dinosaurs they may be, and slow they might be compared to brand new units, but do they keep going? YES they do. Yes it is an SPIII but still fully supported by Garmin. You can order the CD free of charge, but need to pay to unlock it's full usability.. start here.

Okay, I was a bit harsh on the dear ol' SPIII...and, I still use one!

But, if I were to spend a dime on a new Garmin however, it would NOT be on an SPIII...Too slow, not enough memory and an outdated screen.

The 26xx models are CHEAP now, way faster and can hold the whole USA mapset. The 27xx models have the new TFT screen that you can actually see in direct sunlight, plus XM radio and MP3 capabilities.

Oh hell, I take it back...The SPIII IS a dinosaur! Sorry you disagree.
