Question Garmin 2610 mounting kit

Is this Garmin 2610 GPS mounting kit what I need to mount my 2610. I think it will supply power, a wire for connecting to my Baehr (through their additional adapter cable) intercom and the needed bracket to hold the GPS. Also, I want to mount the unit on the stingray. I know, I know. I've looked and read about the BMR shelf and really don't want it. So having said that, what mounting system is best for mounting on the stingray? RAM mount? Can I just mount the stationary mount that came with the unit with a few small screws? Thanks for the help.

Hey, Brian - I think the BMR folks originally made what they called the "Trivet", which wuz designed for mounting specifically to the stingray just beyond the window readout. Great place for doing what you wanna do. I don't know if they're still in production, butt you might find one with a 'Wannabuy' post on the list, or check with some of the re-cyclers or eBay.

Red face Trivet

I just followed the suggestion to BMR and bought the trivet.
It is "Exactly" what I have been looking for.
Thanks!!!

Some alternatives: The Garmin Motorcycle Mount (which fits on the BMW factory mount):

010-10495-01 about $20;

or with the power cables, and audio breakout jack:

010-10495-00 about $50;

This gives you a bit of security w/ a locking mechanism for your GPS too.

Cheers,
Yarko

This is the kit I am talking about. On eBay for about $39.00. But do you need another base mount or can this be mounted directly to the stingray? When I look at the BMW mount on the 2005 LT they appear to be mounted directly to the stingray. What is the purpose of the additional trivet mount?

You'll want either the BMW stock GPS mounting stuff, or something like the BMR Slotted AMPS bracket (or look at http://bmrproducts.com/products.php for the unmounted, naked picture of it).

Here's a thread in the forums showing it:Garmin Mount on Shelf

If someone's interested, I can post a pic of the Garmin Motorcycle Mount mounted to the BMW GPS mount, and the difference in the cables supplied. I've got the BMW cradle (w/ extra buttons) coming in later in the week - can report if /how the buttons work w/ 2730.

Pictures of the Garmin mount on the BMW mount would be great. I'm thinking of doing the same thing with a 2730.

I used the BMW mount without the $90 cover. I don't think it looks bad, and I like where it positions everything.

Wiring?

Did you wire your unit direct to the battery or into an ignition switched circuit? I like the switched circuit approach so I don't run down the battery if I leave the darn thing on. Problem is, I don't know where I can splice into a switched circuit. Any ideas, anyone?

I added a blue sea fuse box that is relay controlled by the ignition.

I bought it from Ft. Worth BMW Dealer, I bought the mount, the bottom plate and all of the screws and nuts, the Garmin motorcycle mount attached perfectly to this. I bought everything except the $90 painted cover. Maybe when I have an extra $100 I will buy the cover and paint it blacK, but I couldn't get it in a color to match my 2002.

You have to remove the stingray and use the bottom plate as a template and drill 4 holes then bolt it on. It is important to buy the 4 small nuts and screws also because the nuts snap into slots in the mount, and the screws are shorter than the ones that come with the Garmin motorcycle mount.

You added the GPS to your 2002 LT? Did you have GPS on it before or is this a new install? Reason I am asking, I have a 2002 with GPS, and would like to upgrade to the Garmin 2730 model. Not sure what this entails.

My "solution"

Here are pics of Misty's 2610 mounted to her BMR shelf. Misses the windshield, blocks dash lighting and is higher in my peripheral vision for quick glances with my quadfocals.

The pictures of Misty's mount look exactly like the Garmin m'cycle mount I have w/ my 2730 (wires and all).

I've posted lots of part numbers and links in threads (search for posts by me in GPS threads).

Regards,
Yarko

p.s - I really should post some pics of my mount; will after bike comes back from repair (a wild turkey took out my headlights this sunday!)
