Nav III Problem

Has anyone with a Nav III had it go from the map to the calibration screen, or to the Save Location screen all by itself. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with going over bumps or anything like that. It just does it at random times even while the bike is sitting still. Mine has been doing that for a while and Garmin tells me the only solution is to buy a new unit. Of course they don't make the Nav III any more so I would have to buy the IV.

Re: Nav III Problem

I had a Nav ll jump screens. It was also starting to delaminate and Garmin actually replaced it with a Nav lll though it was out of warranty. That was about 5 years ago though.

Re: Nav III Problem

It may help to cover the I.R. remote window on the left hand side with black
electrical tape.
Sometimes picks up spurious signals especially with low sun angles.

Re: Nav III Problem

Thanks for the input. I'll try the electrical tape idea. Garmin is offering to sell me a Nuvi device for $200 but I'm not sure which one it is. Worse comes to worse I'll just keep hitting the "Esc" button

Re: Nav III Problem

Try using some rubbing alcohol and clean up the screen really good. They tend to start delaminating and it causes these issues. It worked for me and worth a try.

Re: Nav III Problem

I seem to remember reading an online post that dirt can get under the edges of the screen and the case to cause this problem. The fix was to open it up and clean between the edge of the screen and the case.

Re: Nav III Problem

Exact same problems that I was having with mine. Never could get this corrected. I hope the end result for you isn't the same as what happened to me, the next problem was that it could not locate satilites. This was ultimately the stake through the heart as Garmin does not support this GPS any longer.

Re: Nav III Problem

Exact same problem here. It seems to happen during humid or rainy weather. During dry weather it works fine. I took it apart but you cannot clean the inside of the touch screen. I also made sure the small gaskets are in place. I don't want admit its on its last legs because it is already nicely mounted and wired.
