Garmin 1450LMT, $85 Walmart

I just ordered a refurb fro $85 from Walmart. They will have the Nuvi 50 on sale for $60 on Black Friday.

I'll be playing with it, trying it out around here where it does not rain that often.

First thing will be to break into the audio line to the speaker to install a jack for either a direct connect to a Sena SMH10 or bluetooth dongle.

Bob,

I did that with a Magellan 5040 off Ebay, used a Wireless Bluetooth A2DP 3.5mm Stereo HiFi Audio Dongle Adapter Transmitter, you can find them on Ebay or Amazon for $20.00. I added a 3.5 MM jack to the GPS, attached to the speaker and plug the dongle into that. You might want to hard wire the power to the dongle as the battery life is about 6 hrs.

Yes it works!

Re: Garmin 1450LMT, $85 Walmart

That's a great price for a decent GPS.

My wife has the 1450LMT for her car. She likes the large 5" screen, and the Lane Assist feature. It's a decent unit that does basic routing well enough, although it's not at all waterproof for bike use.

The Lifetime Maps are nice, although I did have a "not enough memory" error when trying to upgrade to the latest 2013.3 maps. Fortunately, I had a spare 2 Gig micro SDHC card available, so I just stuck that in the GPS and installed the maps onto that. Seems to work just fine.

How exactly do you add a 3.5mm audio out jack? I'd like to do that on my TomTom GPS so I can plug it into my Sena SM10 aux port.

I drilled a hole in the back of the GPS (after I took it off ), ran wire I took from an old broker headset from the speaker out the hole and added a 3.5 mm jack to the wires. I soldered both the signal wires to one side of the speaker and the ground to the other, to get stereo to the bluetooth dongle.

This is what my completed setup looks like. Just velcro the dongle to the back or a mount. It is NOT waterproof, but a plastic bag over it will work.

Re: Garmin 1450LMT, $85 Walmart

For those who are wanting to use their non waterproof GPS, I use a waterproof GPS cover bought from amazon, comes in different sizes and works well.

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying " I'll try again tomorrow".
