Talking base camp

Hey all;

I was never very good at mapsource, but I dealt with it. Now base camp!!!
How can I use the base camp w/o having to have my 550 connected?
Never have figured out why they make it so you need a college degree to use it.
All other mapping programs, point, click, and away you go. just saying.

Re: base camp

Feeling your pain!
Use the links and tutorials (totally gay word)
work with some short routes that you can delete. once you get rolling, not so bad
but I liked the old version better.
Also garmin forum will have a lot of help, just like this one.

Re: base camp

Open basecamp and be certain your most current map in you gps is in basecamp and mapsource. If not you need your gps connected for basecamp to read a map. Should be a pull down on the top right indicating the map or look under 'view' and select 'map product'
BTW the tutorial that pops up when you open BC is not bad...

You need to have the maps loaded onto your computer if you want to use BaseCamp without having your device connected. If you'll go to, register if you haven't already, then go to the myMaps tab, you'll see an option to download maps. Once MapUpdater is running, you need to click on the "Options" button and select that you want to download the maps to your device and your computer (or just your computer if your device's maps are already up to date). The default is to just load to the device.

Here's a good link for the tutorials:

(unfortunately the "Video Tutorials" item under the Help menu in BaseCamp now goes to the wrong page on the website)
