Garmin Zumo 665

I recently bought a refurb unit via Ebay.

I've tried it out a few times riding around locally and on a recent half day ride.

The display is a LOT easier to read than the one on my StreetPilot 2720

Being able to set the relative volume of the MP3 player and the directions is great!

Having the speed limit right next to my speed is handy--I don't have to look at the dash board; don't have to look at the dash board for the time either.

Displaying distance and time to next turn is great!

I'm not sure about the altitude being displayed?

For me it was a worth while step up from my StreetPilot 2720

Since I don't have to look at the speedo any more, I've been wondering if I could remove it and replace it with something useful, like a video display of what is behind me?

I think my permanent mounting place will be on the left side of the shelf instead of the right. On the right side I have to take my hand off the throttle; if it was on the right side I can poke it with my clutch hand.

It will be interesting to try out the wx display during my ride back to Tucson

Re: Garmin Zumo 665

The 2012 map that came with my 665 is a couple of years out of date.

I rode around in circles in Dover NH before I realized that the the state liquor store was not at the location my map showed.

Re: Garmin Zumo 665

I have a 660 on my VTX, and my '05 came with a Nav III. Just did a 2000 mile trip with the Nav III and I'll be switching to the Zumo 660 next time - going from the larger screen to the smaller one was frustrating.... And my 660 will bring tunes with it (yippee!).

Re: Garmin Zumo 665

I signed up for weatherNav from XM.

When I went out this morning I couldn't find it on my 665. It turns out thry didn't tell me that I had to have my 665 on and connected to the antenna for them to down load the software?

Works now.

Re: Garmin Zumo 665

The voice prompts on my 665 goes into fast forward.

And, the MP3 player goes into slooooooow play back.

Garmin said that it would take two weeks for them to send out a replacement unit after they receive mine.

Fortunately, the MP3 player acts up less frequently. If I shut the unit off and turn it back on the MP3 player runs normal speed.

Re: Garmin Zumo 665

what is a "WX Display?" Weather?

I hope it's better than the 550's "weather" display, which was pretty much worthless

Re: Garmin Zumo 665

Yup.

WX for some reason stands for weather.

I get a local forecast, WX warnings, and can overlay wx radar on my route.
