The Magic Carpet got a new toy

I'm the 2nd owner of our 2002 K1200LT. It was originally delivered with a Nav I unit on it. That unit served until today. Today I replaced it with a Zumo 220. The Nav I would surely get us from point a to to point b. But there were streets and addresses it wouldn't find. It took forever to find the satellites, took forever to route somewhere and took longer to re-calculate if you detoured or missed a turn. And since we've made the switch to Bluetooth intercom, with a Scala Rider Teamset, I now get the directions in my helmet again if I want.

I just had to boast that new toys are fun is all! I spent a nice afteroon installing the Zumo and trying it out. If you care to you can read a bit more about it here.

Chris,

I was reviewing the GPS section and came upon your Zumo post. I like the position you selected for the unit, is that a home made mount you are using? Any other photo's of how you attached it?

Re: The Magic Carpet got a new toy

John,

The shelf the GPS is on was installed by the previous owner. I think it's a BMR accessory shelf. It's where the original GPS that was new with the bike was located. The Zumo 220 comes with a pretty complete mounting kit and depending on your location, you may or may not need another part. The only part I did need was a RAM diamond ball mount but I had one from an aviation GPS that was longer being used. Since there was a GPS already mounted there, I was able to tap into the existing power supply for it. Otherwise I would've been able to tap into the map light wiring which is also only powered when the bike is on. I'll try to remember and take a few pictures of the mount and post them here in the next day or two.

Yes it does, in the upper left corner. Comes in handy even though I really didn't think it would.
