GPS question for the cage…

I’m getting the Garmin BMW GPS for my K1600 and have a pretty good understanding of it. In the past, I would swap it between the vehicles for trips. I don’t think I’m going to be doing that with the new one though so I thought I’d get a “throw-away” one to move around and generally keep in my wife’s car.

One of the really nice features of the Garmin is being able to bring it inside and connect it to a PC for mapping and loading Way Points.

Locally hhgregg has a magellan gps rm2136tlm for $99.00 and it includes lifetime maps. Seems like a pretty good deal. It’s not to be used on the bike and will only go between cars.

Anyone know if waypoints can be downloaded, or does all programming have to be done through the screen?

Any suggestions or things to look out for? Other GPS car suggestions? I like the lifetime maps, but have not used this feature. The 4.3” screen seems nice too.

Dan I have 2 255WT Garmin 1 in my truck for work & 1 in Sammies car. they are Great little units. Plus the "Wide" screen makes it very easy to see in any light.

Re: GPS question for the cage…

I bought a TomTom XXL550 for the wife a couple weeks ago. $149 marked down to $79 right now at Tigerdirect.com

if you don't HAVE to have the ability to share the same routes easily between your new Garmin on the GT, it's a really nice system.

Re: GPS question for the cage…

Dan,
What defines a "throw away" GPS? It kind of seems like a oxy-moron getting a "throw away" GPS with "lifetime" maps

The one GPS that I was looking at before I decided on a Nuvi 550, was a Nuvi 265WT.
It has a wide screen, has gotten good reviews from folks I know and on the web. It may be a discontinued model, but as of a month or so ago was still widely available and I think the average was around $99 or so.
