2001 Version of the BMW GPS.

So the GPS came witht the bike (2002 lt). Like the Title says it's a 2001 version. Is there a way to update the software? As you can guess it's way out of date. About 50% of the roads in the North Dallas area are not shown... Yeah we have done a lot of growing in the Collin County area in the last 10 years.

IF it was me I would just upgrade to a newer GPS. I do not think there is a lot you can do to update that GPS.

I am guessing it is the same as my Garmin 2612...
The updates stopped in 2008 and Garmin no longer supports that model. You can probably get by with that and the base maps but with the cost of a new GPS it does not make much sense paying to upgrade the map these days when they come with lifetime update, or until it breaks....

Re: 2001 Version of the BMW GPS.

Don't bother even trying to use the Streetpilot III unless you have a very high tolerance for frustration. It has a very slow processor. I had one on my 2002 K1200LT and compared to the 2820 that I purchased two years ago, it was sloooooooooooooooow.

Don't ever get it into the recalculation mode. Best to just turn it off!

It was good in it's time, but now just a door stop.
