Re: accessories - GPS.............

Garmin seems to be the overwhelming champion of GPS. Some folks prefer to get a cheap auto model and throw a plastic bag on it if it rains. Some folks go the real high end route and get a ZUMO.

I went middle of the road and got a Nuvi 550. It is weatherproof like the Zumo's but lacks all the bells and whistles. I found it at GPScity.com

You can go on garmin's website and do side by side comparisons for one that fits your needs. Garmin

Re: accessories - GPS.............

I recently switched to Garmin for the bike and car, and regret it. I'd go with TomTom or even Mio next time. You'll find that "everyone" disagrees with me, and most have only used Garmin so they don't know what they are missing.

What's a hawkeye?

As far as the other stuff, hard to recommend what you will need. If I was doing a lot of riding, I'd probably bring along my iPad instead of a notebook computer.

Well, you can do the same thing with Google Latitude and an iPhone or Android, so you could save one piece of hardware.
