2610 audio cable

Just installed a Baehr Ultima Comm system on my 98 GSA. Connected Garmin power cable to the 2610, worked fine. Wanted audio and tried to connect universal 2.5mm baehr audio cable to audio(?) cable on Garmin power cable. Male (baehr) universal cable doesn't seat into Garmin female audio outlet like it should. Am I missing something? Is the Baeher universal not compatable with the garmin? Do I need an adaptor?

Thanks.

Pictures man....PICTURES!

That said, you are going from the female 2.5 connector at the top of the garmin harnes (one side of the Y) or are you attempting to splice at the bottom of the cable... (I.e. where the red and back come out of the harness..?) If that is how you are going, then there is no audio signal south of the "Y". Garmin has cut that connection. Wires are there, but no signal...

Re: 2610 audio cable

these are the connections..I am trying to use the Garmin female connector at the Y.

Why the hell would Garmin cut the audio wires and have a female connector on the power cable? WTF?

Thanks..

Looking at your middle picture, it looks like you are using a stereo male. The Garmin femal is mono I believe!

Re: 2610 audio cable

Thanks for the response, Phil.
So, I find a mono male, cut the stereo male and put it on the end of the audio cable. Or find an adapter.

Re: 2610 audio cable

I think I got it solved. My area of expertise is NOT electronics, and I am a noob when it comes to wrenching on my 2000 LT and 98 GS, but at age 58 I am game to learn.
Thanks so much for the responses, they helped.

I hate to be naive, but aren't mono and stereo plugs interchangeable?

Re: 2610 audio cable

Mono and stereo plugs are not interchangeable, A mono connection is called 2 pole, when you look at it you see 1 back ring. one of the silver parts is audio, the other is ground. If you plug it into a stereo connector you are cross wiring the connections. For the Baehy system I believe one would need a 2.5mm mono male for the gps and a 3.5mm stereo connector to go into the Baer system. I would seek advise before making a cord up without knowing how the baer is wired. Kieth

mono= 2 pole connection

stereo= 3 ple connection L channel R channel ground

T2 + 4 pole connection L channel R channel ground Mike

*4 ple connectors are wired in a lot of different ways, make sure how they are wired before making cables up.....
