sd card Format

Hey all;

Is there a special way to format my sd card so my Zumo 550 will see it? It may be the SD card.(new) The one from my camera works for the pictures but not the music. I checked my music files which ARE in the MP3 format. Any Ideas?

Re: sd card Format

I've got 2 SD cards. The standard size card, my Zumo recognized immediately. It won't recognize a small HD in an adapter

Re: sd card Format

The usual SD format is FAT16 or FAT32. If the memory card is larger than 4GB then FAT32 would need to be used to access all of the memory. They can also be formatted in the NTFS format but not all devices support it. I have seen other reports that MP3 files can't be found on a Zumo with an NTFS formatted card but some other file types seemed to be working. I would reformat the card to FAT32, even if it is already formatted that way, and try it again.

I also put all of my music in folders and not in the "root" of the file system. I usually create an "MP3" folder then segregate all my music further into artist and album folders. If you are putting hundreds of music files on the card it will actually make the Zumo boot up faster. By boot up I mean the time it takes for the map image to display and for the music to be seen in the music player. I have seen reports that music placed in the "root" will not be found by the Zumo. I haven't verified this myself but it is something to try if nothing else seems to help.

There are rare reports of some cards that just don't work regardless of what is tried to resolve the problem. Electronics can go bad or be of bad quality but I would think this would be a relatively rare occurrence.

Re: sd card Format

Is formatting a card required?

I put a 16GB SD card in my Zumo 550 on Saturday - first one it's had in it since I bought it new 2 years ago. I copied tons of MP3s to the card and they are all readable/playable from the Zumo.
