I have the original Garmin version (Zumo 660) with 3D and I live in Paris, France. To be completely honest with you, mine does occasionally show a little 3D (including the Eiffel Tower), but it's nothing like the pictures on the box.

I was kind of disapointed too, but it's still a great GPS unit.

Re: 3D view on sat nav

I have in dash nav systems in both my car and truck, but found that their "perspective" view is basically useless. When in perspective view, the sky is always blue with some clouds, even at night, and the roads and intersections never look like the actual roads in front of me. It is basically a frivolous gimmick in my opinion, normal map view is far more useful. In my BMW car dash unit, when in perspective view, there is far less street name information displayed. I tried it for a week or so, went back to plain map view.

If they could ever get something like "Google Earth" type real views, now that would be something. Doubt that will happen in the foreseeable future though, far too much data to store in a gps unit, and way too much bandwidth required to stream it.

I don't want to achieve immortality through my work...I want to achieve it through not dying.

Perchance today, using the Zumo 660 in the cage, I zoomed out to see if I could see my destination from about 150 kilometres out. Suddenly the surrounding topography went 3D.
Anyone else seen that? Seems to work on the long range views only!
