Lightbulb Deleting 2009 Maps from Zumo 550

I purchased the new NT 2010.1 disc and I installed it on my Mac. All went fine. BUT it did not over write the 2009 map. Now I have both maps installed on the Mac and the Zumo 550 sees both of them and I have no room left to install the 2010 maps on the 550.

I used the MapInstaller to update the maps on the Zumo... turned off the 2009 map and tried to put the 2010 on and I only have enough memory to install California and Nevada. I had to put the other states I wanted on the SD card. How can I kill the 2009 map and install the entire 2010 on the 550 and not use the SD card???

Thanks Big Time

Re: Deleting 2009 Maps from Zumo 550

You should probably contact Garman technical assistance. The current mapping data is 2010.3. Their method of update is now fairly automated and the software package will verify the unit and activation of the software first, then install the mapping data on the computer followed by a special build of the mapping data for the GPS unit. This special map build will contain all of North America and be written to the GPS in place of the package that is on it.

I have the same issue on my Garmin Nav III. I have not had a chance to get to their technical support either, but I suspect that I will find time for that as the snow gets deeper.
Also from the Mac OS/X 10.whatever snow leopard is.

Hmmmm.

I keep getting warnings my maps our out of date when I start up the Navigator.

It supposed to delete the current map when you update the new map. I checked and there is not an option to delete from the unit using the unit's software. However if you attach in USB mode to your computer you can. At least with my 2820 you can. My map set got corrupt and I couldn't unlock it or update it, so I deleted everything and started over. Had to download everything from Garmin reload, then run the map install again. It was a pita.

Guys, this is the work-around. Hook your GPS to the CPU that has the Map Source and the new map version.
Select a very small portion of any state (I used a small town in S. Fl)
Export (send) the selected area to the device (GPS)
Presto, the new version will overwrite your old map and you'll only see the new map and BMW POI's
To save space on your CPU, you can delete the older maps in Map source on your CPU BUT you will not be able to get them back,
