It's not *that* bad or complicated, just time consuming. IIRC the end goal is to remove the "stingray", which houses the CD player and assorted cordage, so that you can get at the rear connectors. To do that you will need to remove the following items on BOTH SIDES:
Mirror, black tipover bar, silver plastic covering tipover bar, upper plastic.
This will allow you access to the screws to remove the stingray and get at the connections you need. Look over the Hall of Wisdom and other technical articles for exact how-tos with pics. One item to keep in mind is that a 12k service requires the removal of many of the above pieces, so it may be worthwhile to combine the two and save yourself some time.
