Question Where did you install your Zumo on LT?

I've got a 2000 LT with a BMR shelf already installed. I just bought a Zumo 660.

Exactly where/how are you guys that have Zumo's (550 or 660) installing them?

Re: Where did you install your Zumo on LT?

I purchased BMR's L-shaped bracket that attaches to the shelf; the Garmin cradle for my Zumo 550 attaches to it. Boring but cheap.

BMR sells a little horizontal bar adaptor that fits the Touratech GPS mounts. Nifty but more bucks. Haven't looked to see if they have a 660 mount.

Re: Where did you install your Zumo on LT?

I have the BMR shelf witht the adjustable mount for my 550. The garmin mount bolts right up to it. MUCH better than the stock mounting area.

Re: Where did you install your Zumo on LT?

This is a pic of my Iway installed on my LT just above the radio. When I upgraded to the Zumo, simply swapped the units and the wiring.

Works great for me! I find the LT on the shelf is too far away for comfort.

Re: Where did you install your Zumo on LT?

If and when I get to purchase a Zumo 550, 660, xx0 it will be on the BMR shelf. Being farther way means less chance of hurting someone, mainly me, for not paying attention because I've put the thing too close just inviting me to change things and take my eyes too far off the road.

Here's an interesting way to mount your Garmin:

Re: Where did you install your Zumo on LT?

I have it on a Ram mount, on the front of an RKA electrified tank bag. I like the GPS closer, where it's easy to reach and easy to see. If it was on a BMR shelf, for example, it would appear to be smaller and I think I would lose some of the detail. OTOH, on a shelf it would be closer to your line of sight while riding.

As shown in the attached photo, it does obscure the radio buttons. Not a big deal - just memorize their location. It does not obscure any of the gauges.

Re: Where did you install your Zumo on LT?

I mounted mine on the BMR shelf using the Ram mounts and bought a locking knob (much bigger than the stock) to install it for security! It works great for me even at that distance and it's in the line of sight of the road so don't get as distracted when operating it while riding. Hopefully, if I did it right, there are some pictures attached that will show the mounting that I did!

I used a ram + the mount that came with the Zumo 550 box and installed it on the left handlebar, then I wired the cable to the fuse box so it will only be powered with contact.
A simple modification of the top handlebar cover with a dremel tool to let the two nuts seat.
et voila!
You can also paint the nuts with matching cover color and that's it.
It works great with my bluetooth headset and my cell phone.

Re: Where did you install your Zumo on LT?

I just thought I'd show you how I ended up mounting my Zumo. I have a BMR shelf, and the RAM ball mount that comes with the Zumo 660 screws underneath the shelf into the two holes already pre-drilled in the shelf. I then bought a longer RAM arm, and that allows me to have the Zumo dead center and closer to me than the shelf, but just below line of sight of the road. The attached photos show it from both underneath and from the rider's viewpoint. I can't imagine a better mounting location.
