Zumo 500/550: locations of MP3 and GPX files

I will be renting a bike equipped with Zumo 500.

In advance of the trip, I am preparing an SD card with MP3 music files and gpx point-of-interest and route files.

I am not familiar with the Zumo. As I read the manual, it seems to indicate that all MP3 files should be in the root (top) directory of the SD card, not in sub-folders.

Is that true?

In other words, my normal setup with MP3 files is such, that there are folders for each artist, then subfolders for each album, then the individual songs.

The Zumo manual indicates that I need to re-arrange it all and dump all MP3 files into one humongous collection in the root directory.

Did I get this right?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Zumo 500/550: locations of MP3 and GPX files

The Zumo will scan the whole card for mp3 files so you can use your normal file folder format. In fact the Zumo takes longer to scan MP3 files if they are all located in a single folder then it does if they are in multiple folders. The more files it has to index the longer the delay before the map display will come up. The only critical thing to remember is that the Zumo has a limit of about 1000 user files of all types. If there are more than 1000 files the Zumo will hang up and the Map will never display.

Thanks, Jim.

Much better, then. My "entertainment card" is ready for the trip.
