Harley Ride Planner and the Navigator III

I have a Navigator III on my 2009 LT and want to create a route and load it into the unit. I went to Harley's web site and used their Ride Planner and created exactly the route I wanted. I connected my GPS to my computer. The Ride Planner recognized my unit and said it successfully exported the data. My only problem is I'll be damned if I can find it. Be gentle with me guys as this is my first attempt. This puppy does accept routes from an external source doesn't it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Harley Ride Planner and the Navigator III

If you go into the 'ROUTE' menu it should show up under 'Route List'...at least they do in my 2610 which is much the same as your Nav III.

Good luck

I think the unit is mad at you for using a Harley map. You will probably need to find an exorcist to rid the evil spirits.

It may have exported data to somewere on your cpu vs. the gps. It is generally a .GDB file extension.
Did the gps indicate on the screen "transfering data or receiving data"?
By default Garmin will also generally restart the gps after a"tranfer complete" operation.
If not then the file was downloaded to your cpu. Do a search for a .GDB file created on the day you did the work.
If you find it you will need to import it into your Garmin MAPSOURCE software. Good luck.

I got it now guys, thanks. I think my issue was I hadn't named my route in the Ride Planner program. Didn't even have to call an exorcist!

Re: Harley Ride Planner and the Navigator III

I was first introduced to the HD ride planner at last year's Microsoft Partner Conference. They gave out mini-CDs of "beta" sites for Microsoft's new mapping software.

I was blown away by the ease of use and detail in the planner. I have used them all, and I like it because it's a web application, and better than Google maps for us roadies. You can get into it anyplace with web access - hotels, internet cafes, etc. You can save and download a map and transfer it to your Garmin right there. - all you need is a USB cable and your Garmin. No need for the "client" software you need with Garmin's mapsource.

Don't laugh, but the listing of all the HD dealers on the planet may get you out of trouble some day - they do have tire changers and I've known a few that have employees or friends that are BMW wrenches.

as always - just my .02

And don't forget those BMW-HD mortorcycle shops opening up here and there for the past two years, much to the consternation of many on both sides of the hyphen.

Re: Harley Ride Planner and the Navigator III

I have a problem with this also. If you put in a route in the HD route planner and use locations in the route it puts each individual location into the GPS and not the whole route. Also if I put waypoints in, it tries to go to the waypoints like I'm in an airplane, not following roads. Any help is appreciated.

Just dress like a pirate when you ride and then the NAV III will recognize the Harley route!

Had a quick try of the Harley map program. It seems to give Best Western Hotels only. That would be a problem.
