2002 BMW Navigator Motorcycles Navigator

I have a 2002 1200lt that came with a GPS. I bought the bike last year in NY and found the GOS system was program only for the NE. I can't figure out how to re-program it becasue there is no instructions or cables. I tried to "google" it but haven't been able to come up with much.
The little I did use it was a bit frustrating as the screen was small and hard to program. Does anyone know if I can update it without having to re-wire and incure a bunch of expense?

Hi Mike,

I think you're going to have to give us a little more info here. Does it have a BMW sticker or label on it? Do you have a model number? Color Screen? Does it look like this?

I have a 2003 LT that came with the BMW Branded Streetpilot III that you see below. Not sure if the 2002's came with this one or a previous model. In any case you will need to have a copy of Garmin's City Navigator North America Maps to put in other regions of the US into your GPS. The SPIII came with a data card for the maps. If you have this unit, you should have a USB cord to download the maps from your computer to the GPS.

It is probably the BMW branded version of the StreetPilot III. It has very limited memory capacity and that is probably why only a small section of the country was mapped on the GPS. It change the maps you will need a cable that plugs into a serial port on your computer and has a slot on the other end for the GPS memory card. You will also need the maps CD. If you don't have the CD, it cost around $100.

Honestly you are better off buying a new GPS. There is a ton of info on this forum about various GPS models and how to mount them. You can get a good GPS for less than $250 and mounting it to the bike should not cost too much in time or money.

I had/have the same GPS all boxed up with a ton of accessories and found that it was cheaper to simply buy a new 2820 complete for around $300.00. I'd be happy to send you the complete Street Pilot III ( what you have) and all of the extras for a reasonable offer. I have the software, extra 128 chip for adding extra maps and lots of cable and mounting accessories.

The 2820 is x times faster, better screen, XM satellite and music storage, etc etc etc......
